An irk that became a smile:
Ludovico Einaudi played in Tokyo tonight. It was his only Japanese tour date.
I was knackered all day because I started work at 7am. As soon as I sat down on the train after work I realised I'd left the tickets at the office! Jumped off the train before the doors shut and headed back to get them. It was pelting down and by this point I was wet, tired and hungry.
Running about in the rain reminded me of a similar situation:
On a Thursday night in 2009 a good friend of mine told me she would be seeing Ryuichi Sakamoto playing in London that coming Sunday.
I jumped on eBay and found someone selling a ticket. Front row, face-value BIN price and he posted it before he got payment so that I'd get it in time.
I got the ticket and headed out in the pouring rain. But I missed my train and thought I wouldn't be allowed in once the doors shut. I caught the next train but got lost on the way to the hall.
I arrived late, soaking wet and tired. I had to wait about 5-10 minutes before I could go inside but when I did I discovered where my seat was: right in front of Sakamoto! I was over the moon.
Listening to him playing, all the tension melted away. Although I couldn't sit with my friend, we met afterwards and had dinner together. I'd always fancied her so I was grateful even for a few minutes together.
Fast-forward to today and here I am running about in the pouring rain to meet that very same girl and see this concert with her, but this time it's exactly two years since we stopped being friends
