New Government slogan advice - STAY ALERT

Apparently it means Stay at Home.

That’s a catchphrase sure to reverse the pretty horrific infection and death numbers in the UK. A good slogan and some good old blitz spirit 1966 World Cup win camaraderie can defeat any virus.

I'm not having a go at the kids; they have my sympathy. This is the prime of their life and they're crossing that threshold to adulthood; this is a terrible thing for them.

I just baulked at the suggestion that "going abroad with friends at 16" is something everyone does. Surely only wealthy kids get to do that; it isn't the normal teen experience.

And the Germans too apparently. Lockdown eased, infections rise

It’s almost like these things might be related.

Another knacker of a policy from a knacker of a government. That’ll clarify those mixed messages!

Far more sensible to keep the advice the same, but make new developments clear tonight.

Aye, perhaps you are right, we certainly aren't rich but the daughter wanted to go with her mates to Rome when she turns sixteen, it's down to her but I've advised her against it.
For me, different times, I went with my mates to the South of France camping on a coach trip when I was sixteen, we were all working though so could just about afford it.

Not sure what to make of this, either truth or scaremongering. perhaps I've got my data wrong but I thought the relaxation came on 6th May, and it's already having a 'big' effect on the R rate, I also believe that symptoms take more than three days to appear.

If so, surely it would take longer for the relaxation to have an effect on new cases, I would expect a spike in cases later this week or next week.

You've got your data wrong. Germany has been easing restrictions for a couple of weeks starting near the end of April.

Ah ok thanks Marty. BBC report dated 6th said restrictions were being lifted from then.

What a load of vague, poorly-thought out nonsense. Spaffer is the very definition of hollow bluster.

Waiting from a call from work tomorrow saying "out you go and do visits".

                          Stupid. It’s all reactive.

‘Well the rate is below 1. So let’s be super-vague about travel and work, and encourage people to get to work no matter what. Then, if it goes above 1, we’ll lockdown again.’

Far better to stick it out for longer to get the rate down further. Skirting around the threshold is foolish. It isn’t a solid policy. It’s all about economic protection.

So if schools have to open for years R, 1 and 6, what about a kid in year 2? Whose parent has a car and can get to work safely? Are they staying at home? It’s ill-thought out nonsense.

                          Comment

Yep. The infection rate can only go up by easing restrictions. And that ‘below 1’ rate is among a group far too large as it is, with thousands of new cases every day and hundreds of deaths every day. It is far from under control.

We needed a proactive determination to stand with the other nations. At the moment, the policy seems to be to push things as far as possible, and if it screws up, then act tough. I’m not fan of Sturgeon, but she is far more determined to take more successful actions than Spaffage. Germany have just proven that a slight ease results in the virus gaining traction again.

It’s haphazard and far too confusing to spring on people at short notice.

We have been weak as piss since day one, should of been army check points and guns on the street. Not a few coppers dishing out fines like someone has dropped litter.
