I just baulked at the suggestion that "going abroad with friends at 16" is something everyone does. Surely only wealthy kids get to do that; it isn't the normal teen experience.

For me, different times, I went with my mates to the South of France camping on a coach trip when I was sixteen, we were all working though so could just about afford it.

And the Germans too apparently. Lockdown eased, infections rise
If so, surely it would take longer for the relaxation to have an effect on new cases, I would expect a spike in cases later this week or next week.

Stupid. It’s all reactive.
‘Well the rate is below 1. So let’s be super-vague about travel and work, and encourage people to get to work no matter what. Then, if it goes above 1, we’ll lockdown again.’
Far better to stick it out for longer to get the rate down further. Skirting around the threshold is foolish. It isn’t a solid policy. It’s all about economic protection.
So if schools have to open for years R, 1 and 6, what about a kid in year 2? Whose parent has a car and can get to work safely? Are they staying at home? It’s ill-thought out nonsense.

We needed a proactive determination to stand with the other nations. At the moment, the policy seems to be to push things as far as possible, and if it screws up, then act tough. I’m not fan of Sturgeon, but she is far more determined to take more successful actions than Spaffage. Germany have just proven that a slight ease results in the virus gaining traction again.
It’s haphazard and far too confusing to spring on people at short notice.
