The wife has booked us a city getaway next week for three nights in The Hague. I don't think she's realised that the B&B is right next door to an arcade, and is surrounded by a plethora of coffeeshops each with hundreds of 5* ratings on Google.

Make sure you get to the Mauritshuis, up the stairs, room on the left, eyes right.

Went to the Northern Quarter to see some friends for the first time in 2 years last night. Spent the whole night catching up over drinks and just had a merry old time.

There's every chance it could be cancelled (including by me), but after what feels like a lifetime of Covid suspensions I've got flights and hotel booked for my usual annual winter trip to Bangkok Thailand, going in late Feb 2022. The prices are likely to go insane very soon.

I'm certain mask-wearing will still be required on the flights, indoors (and probably outdoors in places) but I'm fine with that. I have to do it at home so it's just something I'm used to. I'm just happy that I've got something booked. As little as a fortnight ago it seemed very hopeless and unlikely. Even if it doesn't work out in the end, I'm starting to feel as though long-distance overseas travel is something that is actually returning sometime soon rather than many years away. Even if it will be a bit different to pre-Covid era, it'll be great to get away from here for a bit. To be honest I just enjoy travel, I'm the sad sack who sits up all night on a plane looking at distant lights and trying to figure out what town it is on the 3D flight map.

Looking forward to looking for weird old games while I'm there. They have an amazing shop in the MBK called O-Corner run by a guy with an insane collection of super rare stuff. There's another place with more cheapo stuff too, picked up a Sansui Famicom pad and a few Japanese Saturn games last time I was there.

An ancient proverb says "man who walks through turnstile sideways, always going to Bangkok."

I remember reading about a journalist who tried to sneak onto Blind Date undercover and she got scuppered and shamed by Cilla

It was actually on TV; I remember they did a retrospective of the show's strangest moments.

What's terrible is that she went on the date with the bloke, and they only found out while they were off in Amsterdam or whatever, and then confronted her when they got back. The bloke thought she was really into him when really she was just someone who worked for a gossip mag who was doing a "what it's really like to be on Blind Date" story. IIRC she was married and everything.

It was brilliant because she really didn't suspect that they knew anything and played along with the whole charade until the end.
