So which part of Norfolk are you from?

I've been running mine like normal now
      2 hours in the morning
Hour at lunchtime when I'm home
      4 hours in the evening

Just got to a point where I have to use it, I'm not going freeze or freeze Chloe for no point
I'm having to pay for it so I might as well use it

It was -2 where I live last night, felt like -9 (according to the weather report) house would've been horrendous without the heating on. We had a new boiler fitted with a Hive at the start of the year and it's actually seen our gas usage drop, as it just maintains the temp we have set for various times in the house in short burst, unlike our old boiler which just seemed to be full on or nothing. The lower usage is of course cancelled out by higher costs, but no way could we be comfortable with it only being on for an hour a day.

We have ours on technically all day, but it has to dip below 16 to come on. But with the cold/snow we've had its struggled to get above. I have the boiler on eco mode, so the radiators themselves never get really hot, which is either working for or against us, I'm not sure.

An hour in the morning, 90 minutes from 17.30 so the kids are warm at bedtime.

Hot water on for 30 minutes in the morning but not sure that needs to be every day as we're not showering every day because it's so bloody cold!!

Bloody hell, sorry to hear that.

We've decided to use ours as normal. We're lucky in that we have a combi-boiler combined with a house that has 2 thermostats; 1 upstairs and 1 downstairs so we can turn on the floor we want, rather than heating the whole house.

So we tend to have upstairs on for 1 hour in the morning to warm the bedroom + the en-suite while we shower and to heat the towels. I work from home but don't tend to need the heating as I just shut my office door as while I'm building in Visual Studio or testing in VR, the room heats itself! But then turn the heating on downstairs for about 2 hours in the evening to heat the front room and kitchen. Then at around 8pm, we turn the upstairs on for 2 hours to heat the bedroom.

At the moment, our smart meter is averaging 0.18p per hour of gas per day. We're on a fixed tarrif till next year so should be okay for the next 6 months. I fully understand that me and Mrs Wools are in a privileged position as we both work, do okay and have no desire for kids, so we'll just stump up what's needed for our energy. But it's heart breaking to hear some of the stories here and on the news.

Go get some heated mattress pads, they sit under your mattress sheet and some have timers so you can warm the bed for a few hours then it goes off. My partner has one and she loves it, also electric blankets, cost nothing to run for long periods and its all localised heat.

Or evolve like me to just not be cold.

Edit. I expect this will all have to change once baby arrives and the house needs a constant ambient, fun.

-9 degrees last night. Last few nights we can see our breath with ease in each room. Once the heating goes off after an hour in the evening the temps drop completely within 20 mins so it's only really proving useful to help them fall asleep. Kids haven't complained though and from Sunday it's supposed to rise enough to not need the heating on thankfully.

We've probably used £25 in a week to heat the house for 7 hours total. I expect our bill will rise by £170 in February as a result

I would implore you to run the heating for longer. That kind of cold is going to cause health problems if you're exposed to it for too long. https://www.bbc.com/future/article/2...ts-your-health

Not to mention that wood and fabric will get damp. It's not good for the home.

It’s almost like they planned the energy crisis to happily align with one of the coldest winters in the last 5 years (at least in south essex)

Sleep whats that? I function on 4-5h’s a night on average anyway, shrugs.

My other half who is useless without 8-9solid sleep hours a night is going to have a real hard time of it however.
