1970s = oil crisis, 3 day week, power cuts, half the country on strike at one time or another, IRA setting off bombs on the mainland every couple of months and when its not the IRA its the Angry Brigade or PLO. Rampant inflation, UK in so much debt it has to borrow money from the IMF we're probably still paying back, stroppy Labour militants taking over town halls spending money they did not have and resulting in local chaos (uncollected bins, unburied bodies and more strikes).
And the 1970s food............................no avocado pears, no sourdough bread, height of sophisticated home dining meant Matteus rose and Blue Nun wine, shrimp cocktails made with salad cream coloured with tomato sauce, frozen Black Forest gateaux, gammon and pineapple, Vesta freeze dried curry.....it really was hell.Last edited by fallenangle; 25-05-2022, 23:10.

Surely those new members would be paying their own daily charge. I did try and get us to these questions on Faceache but they quickly buried it.
