    ... the hell?

That's the point at which I'd start asking for people's names, and saying I'll be writing to the electoral commission - then ask them strongly to reconsider before I do.

I went to vote in my 'ward' and there was a choice of only libs or cons. No other parties represented. None at all. I've never seen that before. I don't know whether there's been some tactical deals, but usually there are greens and labour, at least, plus some independents. Anyway I had no choice but to vote for the only party that is not the tory party. This I found difficult as the libs are proven snakes.

I voted at lunchtime and was presented with a bloke who, when presented with my driving licence, spent around 20 seconds staring at it and looked at me several times before saying “Close enough.”

I laughed as I thought he was joking. But he didn’t crack a smile…

Saw some lovely graffiti on the path nearby in white chalk and took a photo, wish I could easily post it here, but it said: “Rich get richer, poor get poorer, Tory’s don’t care.”

I would be interested to know how much voter fraud these latest precautions averted, bearing in mind they were concocted in order to make it as difficult as possible for 'young' people (i.e., pre-Bus Pass) to vote.

Local parties can often have difficulty funding enough deposits for local elections, in areas where they don’t have strong support. Used to be in the Labour Party, in a very Tory area, and at one point there wasn’t enough funding or active local members to commit to a full slate of candidates. Although as you say there could be an unofficial tactical deal among local non-Tory parties in this case.

              It’s rounding error level.

voters who are transgender or have transgender partners reported not being able to vote because their documents did not match their new name, having had difficulty applying for the government-issued voter ID certificate.

Clinically vulnerable people reported difficulties due to rules that say voters must remove any face coverings so staff can check their identity, with at least one voter being turned away.

Andrea Barrett, a voter in Hampshire who is immunocompromised, said she was not allowed to vote at her polling station, despite providing photographic ID and a video of her putting on her mask, as she refused to remove her face covering inside.

“I was denied my right to vote in person,” said Andrea. “As an immunosuppressed person, I should have been able to vote safely with appropriate reasonable adjustments in place.”
The trans issue is one i didn't think about, that's a pretty big win for the torys seeing as how anti trans they have been recently. Seeing lots of story's about people being, turned away due to them not meeting the new guidelines, people not having the right ID, people turning up with photocopy's of their ID, and clerical errors surrounding their id seem to be the main reasons people are turned away. What we will never know though is how many people just didnt bother and have been dropped out of the system.

Not even half way through the count and the Con have lost 209 seats.

Labour and the Lib Dems make gains, with the Conservatives losing more than 1,000 council seats in England.

(for some reason I put this in the energy thread)

I suspect that when Sunak loses the GE the Tories will full on go into meltdown and end up appointing a full on hard right nutjob in a final death blow.
They effectively need someone who is more Cameron/May than Johnson/Truss but I think they'll waste years getting their worst excesses out of their system until any form of sense can take hold and a full reboot begin

There have been more Prime Ministers since the last General Election than there were incidents of voter fraud.
