I don't believe this for a single moment.

The main reason is that people often get a black coffee and steamed milk to make their own flat white and you get more of it than if you ordered a flat white.

It's totally a little irk, but I don't like that I can't say black coffee or Americano without being corrected.

Why would I make that up? My mate had the same thing as that’s all he drinks, they corrected him to “Americano without milk”.

You make stuff up all the time like the time you said your uncle invented the WiiU.

Americano IS coffee without milk. Adding the "without milk" is superfluous.
Ordering an Americano should get you a black coffee with no further clarification required.

It's true I heard fishbowlhead say this behind the bike sheds at lunch

Why do you think I like the WiiU so much, family ties and all that.

Yeah, nah.

It's the same as textile machines. True, you have to hire 5 engineers, but you can replace 200 embroiderers.

Well, you're going to be one of the first taken out by the robots for being so trusting, whereas I'll be in a bunker with John Connor, watching a fire in TV case.

As many of you know, I'm in a creative industry and maybe it was ego but I honestly felt like human creativity would be the last thing AI could replace. So many of us now have spent the last few months really digging deep into AI, in particular the areas of writing and art (both still and moving). For art, I think I've been looking at it for over 18 months now. That's a very small amount of time and yet the progress in that time has been staggering.

My current conclusions:

It's so exciting!

We're all so screwed.

I gave it an advert to write and it came back almost the same as the one I already had. Either it's overrated or I'm that good in the first place

This is exactly it.
You could ask an AI to make a pixelart picture like yours, but it's an approximation, standing on the creativity of real humans without paying for the privilege, whilst at the same time, losing any soul in it.

I love looking for the tiny details in your pictures and what you've decided to animate.
A yellow Countach because you love Sunstreaker and have the (broken) masterpiece figure.
A sunrise, rather than rain because you want a positive picture to go against the current mood.

Those things are going to be lost (like tears in the rain) when companies start using AI to create boxart or invent game rules, whilst we've all been having a laugh, creating mashups of Star Wars and Shaft, asking it to write stories or code, whilst inadvertently making it better with every request.

When people start losing contracts to AI, it'll be too late to lament and the big businesses will be happy to pay nothing for this creativity.

When the AI starts creating AI, that's when the real problems start...

They all require some wrangling at the moment. Spend a bit of time with them and you'll find ways of phrasing prompts to get more interesting results. Even then, I find it difficult to direct Midjourney when it comes to very specific details.

The other thing with playing with the art ones in particular is that you start to see the work of artists you know as the basis for its outputs. A lot of people are basically saying that it's stealing the work of artists and, while it's a very tricky grey area with many "well technically..." arguments but, in ways, they aren't wrong at all.

Yes, I think you're exactly right on all of this. A lot is lost in this process. But like with lower quality audio or visuals online, I fear most people won't notice or care. They just see an AI output and think, that looks great!

And yes, when AI is making AI we're all doomed.

The big thing that alarms me are the AI lawyers and stuff like that. I can honestly see us handing over real control willingly to AI. At that point, whether Midjourney ripped off my art or not will be the least of my worries.
