I was in Fukuoka, and I thought it was an amazing city.

I'm recently back from Osaka and I personally preferred the Kansai area to Tokyo. I'm sure its not for everyone but I quite liked the idea of staying in Osaka and having Nara, Kyoto and Kobe so close by. Before I went I did plan on going up to Tokyo again for a few days but once I was there I didn't really have any desire to do so.

Right, less than 4 weeks till me and the missus fly out to Tokyo for 3 weeks.
We'll be in town for the tokyo game show, really really cant wait for that. I'll try and grab some snaps of the booth babes if anyone's interested
Anyone else heading to the TGS on the Saturday? I presume NTSCUK might have a representative there to cover the news.
Would also like to visit Osaka, Kyoto and see Mt Fuji but prices for the Shinkansen are very very expensive. Might end up sticking around in Tokyo for the 3 weeks with the ocassional day trip to Disney, Yokohama and the Ghibli museum.
Roll on september the 12th!

also near Yokohama station you will find one of finest Donkatsu restaurants that I've been in Japan - and I went fair number of them...

Ah that reminds me, how difficult is it to order in Japanese restaurants if you're a non-Japanese speaker? I can say a few phrases like "this one" "what is it" etc but its pointless asking what something is if I dont understand the answer.
Have panic attacks picturing me and my missus starving in Tokyo lol

Lots of restaurants only have Japanese menus, but in the big cities you should be ok.
If there aren't any pictuers in the menu, it might be best to ask for what someone else you can see is eating. Even easier is to see if there are any models of the food in the shop window that you can point out to the waitress.
Don't worry, you won't starve!

Its strange (but incedibly useful) that most menu's have pics of the food, even some very high class places had nice little photo's for us foul smelling Gaijin.
What would Gordon Ramsey say about a Michelin star restaurant having pics of the food on the menu's?
well, im sure he would use the word "****ing" somehow
