Never a pen but yeah he did miss. He still played well overall though.

Nakamura, there is a massive difference between the way the opposition teams set up to face Liverpool as opposed to West Brom. Liverpool cannot break down teams who go to Anfield to shut up shop, hence the draws.
Both teams face very different challenges, Liverpool create tons of shots on goal but can't convert them most of the time. Its a situation the club would very much rather be in than having to contain teams and struggle all season, that is exactly how they were shaping up before Dalglish came back and restored some belief at the club.
The club need a striker to convert the chances created, Carroll isn't the one obviously. Suarez does all of the hard work but just cant convert enough chances.
The Arsenal keeper clearly caught Suarez's shin. That was shown after half time, some time after the commentators rather shockingly insinuated Suarez had cheated. He definitely made a meal of it but there was contact. I'm sure many players in this day and age, usually English, get praised for leaving their leg in to 'win' a penalty.

It isn't just Suarez that does this, lots do but he did today. It is time Fifa gained control of this as i'm sick of hearing about people 'winning' penalties.

Against Arsenal, Liverpool had 24, of which 4 were on target.
That is according to the reports and stats on yahoo.
I appreciate the point that mid table teams play at Anfield with a different mentality to when they play at the Hawthornes, but I don't think the implication that Liverpool are creating and squandering tons more chances than West Brom is correct.

You've taken one game and decided that is the record of both clubs' seasons in condensed form. Bar their recent run of form West Brom haven't exactly set the league alight with their free flowing attacking football, attacking football which generally sees them creating a wealth of chances.
If I'm wrong I'll happily admit it but I've not looked at the stats for the season. To insinuate Liverpool, at this moment are similar to West Brom is ignoring the performances of both clubs up to now.

You could have 35 Odemwingies for 1 Carroll.

A quick look at The Sun, chosen because it was high in the search rankings, rather than to annoy Liverpool fans, gives the following.
WBA - 138 on target of 383 total shots
Liverpool 146 on target of 427 total shots
Granted, Liverpool have a game in hand. Still, that's less than one extra shot on target every three games. And their record is very ordinary compared to the rest of the top ten. It really sounds like an excuse to say that they "create tons of shots on goal" but don't take them to explain their poor league performances when judged against the prices paid for their players.Last edited by DeathAdder; 05-03-2012, 01:34.

I'm happy to accept that as truth. The stats definitely show that both teams have comparable shots on goal. Liverpool between 1-2 per game more if they are on target.
However, this is where we'd need someone who watches both teams regularly. I would argue that Liverpool's chances would be 'better', for want of an appropriate word, as a ratio compare with West Brom's. I think the unusually high number of times they have hit the woodwork this year would suggest that too.
West Brom are set up in the typical Hodgson mould, which is perfectly fine for West Brom but would never suffice for a club that looks to win games rather than not get beat.Last edited by Adrock; 05-03-2012, 17:03.
