I have had enough of expensive strikers being played out wide under Rafa.

Cisse, Kuyt, Babel and also Diouf under Houllier. We should just get an actual wide player!
Kewell played more centrally at other clubs as did Smicer. McManaman was our last wide player that did well and even he did better once he was freed.

At least we didn't get Special Liege, I think the bog standard one should be OK.

Anyone see the highlight from Villareal? I hope we get some younger players playing for us this season. I am less excited about this season than I can remember in all honesty. Keane is a good player but he does not set my pulse racing.

I don't see either as upgrades tbh:

Alonso -> Barry (still hoping this fails)
Crouch -> Keane

Reminds me a little too much of getting Bellamy and Pennant cos they had Premiership experience.

Couldn't take much from the Villareal game, 13 subs used in all...Keane looked sharp, but fluffed his one proper chance.

Out of the kids who played I can only see Darby & Insua getting a look in this season because we don't have that many full-backs, Spearing and Nemeth will probably be loaned out and Pacheco just isn't ready yet. Plessis looks a decent player, but if Barry comes in it just moves him further down the queue, so I can't see him getting much time on the pitch. The 7-subs rule should definitely help them though.


I can't wait for the season to start now, had a nice summer off, but I need something to do at the weekends. Slightly worried about the start of the season without Mascherano, Lucas & Babel, we can't really afford too many injuries, if we come through that I reckon we'll do OK.

I was very happy with the display against Rangers yesterday. Keane, Gerrard and Torres mixing it up with some nice one touch football. I thought Ngog looked decent. He even did the elastico move just before pinging one goal bound. His goal was very good.

Also, the Barry deal is finally done. Thank feck for that. Rafa's next plan is to try and offload some players to fund one more luxury signing - supposedly, Silva. Finger crossed.

EDIT: Saw the replays and if you think it went over from those angles then you're autistic or something. The pundit thinks it didn't go over.

My goodness, we need some proper wingers. Kuyt works hard and has the odd flash of good football, but to me he looks like a striker/tireless dog pretending to be a winger. Sooner Babel comes back, the better. Then on the left? Maybe Aurelio?

At least it's an opening day three points, sounded like the first thirty minutes was pretty woeful.

We started well last season as I remember. But as always we blew it around November. In fact it was quite similar to the first game of last season, Gerrard with a last minute free kick to win it against the Villa. I'm definitely not going to build my hopes up this time..

dossena is a poor player, riise looks a 25 million pound player compared to him, we need 2 wingers and one sided babel( bubble bobble) is not the answer

arbeloa is terrible, hyypia past it(skrtel and agger on bench wtf)

he keeps taking keane off lets give him and torres time to gel

benayoun is not liverpool standard along with pennant, kuyt, voronin, list goes on and on
