It is stupid, but being totally left footed I can kind of understand his choice to go with the head... just.

Sure he thought the ball was going to bounce higher than it did so sort of agree, however a left foot flick (away from the net) would have sufficed, even one off the shin would have done. Still, it's all history now.

Not worried about the second leg - we'll score two goals and that'll be enough.

Liverpool didn't deserve to get a greater scoreline than 1 - 0 but that own goal at the end made me groan and feel sick (not literally) at the same time.

The next game at Chelsea will be a goalless draw as all eleven Chelsea players will stay in their own half for the whole 90 minutes and put on their usual unexciting show.

Drogba should man the **** up.

I honestly lost count of the amount of times he fell over or was very, very mildly tackled for him to over exaggerate in his fairy land world of his then once the game resumes, he gets up like absolutely nothing happened.

Cech is a helluva goalkeeper, I'll give you that but if it comes to penalties in the second leg, I would be more confident as a Liverpool supporter than a Chelsea fan.

          Riise... Whatever were you thinking...

            Breaking news.

Police have just stopped John Arne Risse on the m62.

Apparently he was heading in the wrong direction...

For a neutral who dislikes both sides equally it was a very watchable game for a change.

One thing though about the Chelsea goal that was never discussed by the pundits is the initial cross. I can't remember who put in the cross, he was tight to the line and the only camera angle provided was narrow so you couldn't relate his position to what was going on in the goal mouth. Maybe I just blinked at the wrong time but my first thought when he received it was that he must have been offside.

              Views?

memory is a bit hazy but iirc he played it across or slightly back so it wasn't offside

Yeah I think he crossed it with his right with his back almost to the Kop.

I meant the Chelsea player who eventually crossed the ball was offside when he received it prior to the cross. I'd swear he was ahead of all the viewable defenders when the ball was played to him.

As said maybe I blinked but I'd like to see it again.

Just watched the highlights. He was indeed in an offside position but the ball went to him directly from a throw in so it wasn't offside.

Ah-ha - that it explains it. Thanks.

Big game tonight fellas. How do you fancy our chances?

I think we should play Crouch up with Torres with Gerrard in midfield - this way we'll win 9-0.

Chelsea have the away goal, they're at home where they have lost once in about four years, it's the first time the second leg is at Chelsea, they're on a high after beating Man U, and the law of averages says they should surely win one of these semi-finals eventually... so I'll be putting a tenner on Liverpool to go though
