As I said before, it's gonna be tough now, Liverpool will have to deal with 9 men in the box for most of the match.

Sunderland are on top against Liverpool. The Black Cats look the more determined and giving the visitors' defence plenty to worry about, while the Reds look a lacklustre team and rarely look like scoring.

I always thought that if the ball goes in off the ref, it's still a goal, and that it applied to all things on the field of play. Looks like I was very wrong!

A poor way to win a game. The commentator said it was a deserved win, but it will be lost amongst the ridiculousness of the goal.

TBH Liverpool had plenty of time to salvage something from the game.

Agreed, Sunderland played well, forced errors and kept going at Liverpool when given the chance.

We don't know what would have happened if the goal had been (correctly by laws of the game) been disallowed but you have to deal with dodgy decisions - our heads seem to drop whenever we get one.

Not sure I have seen us make that many individual errors - Spearing lost it three times in dangerous positions, Skrtel, Carra, they all looked so poor. Three losses in a row and Lyon and MU to come next....

Ryan Babel, at least he didn't make any mistakes, he must surely be that woeful on purpose.

End of the day. We played poo. One more loss and I can sit back and relax, chalk a cue, venture out to the 7-a-side footy pitch without worrying about losing the league.

I dunno. By the end of last season, I was thinking, "Them mancs are gonna see their behind next season"... but now... now I'm starting to believe Team Andromeda. lol The mancs will do us easy at Anfield at this rate.

Something's not right, but I'm not going to point the finger coz I'm not sure what the problem is. It could be owners, Rafa's signings, tactics or team selection, or just poor performances.

Definitely something is wrong. Watching the game just made me frustrated. How can we have become so awful compared to last season. As in the Chelsea game, today the opposition looked like they wanted it more. Winning almost every second ball.
I think even if Gerrard and Torres were there today the result may not have been any different.
The last time I felt like this after watching the team was back when Houllier was in charge towards the dark end. It isn't and can't be that bad can it? But it definitely seems a case of one step forward and three large ones back.

Man U next up, admittedly they aren't playing all that great either, but no doubt who the bookies will favour. If we were to lose the next league match, which seems like a big possibility who would the fans blame?
Today's game was bad from start to end. Play like that next weekend and it's going to be ugly. To be honest I don't give a s%$t about the champions league fixture when we're playing so badly in the league.
What makes me even more frustrated is after also watching the Arsenal game today why can't we play like that.

A lot of pundits have said we won't make the top four so I was so hoping for them to be proven wrong and eat their fat faces. Know it all bumders.

I wonder if this is a rule they changed after that game a few years back where Derby scored the winner against Forest when a shot went in after deflecting off a polystyrene coffee cup someone had chucked onto the pitch.

Apparently that coffee cup is still in Derby's trophy cabinet. We take our local rivalries seriously in the East Midlands.

No, I doubt it very much.
"Foreign object" rules are just basic parts of almost all sports - it is a pretty obvious rule if you think about it. Rules are based on principles, and the principle is much easier to see if you change the object. If a Liverpool fan had thrown on, not a beach ball, but a medicine ball, would that be allowed? If the ball had blocked a goalbound shot, would it be allowed? Obviously not.
Football rules are based on universiality, they should apply everywhere. At a school match, the ref would not condone fans throwing balls onto the pitch, same principle applies. It is pretty funny for those not concerned, definitely. As it happened, the game turned (on 5mins) on that.

Liverpool had 85 minutes to grab an equaliser, and didnt. Stop blaming the beach ball- you had a good enough side to fight back and get something out of the game.

I don't disagree. LFC deserved to lose. But, games turn on goals (I put the 5 mins in brackets for that reason). They had time to get something, they didn't.
Liverpool should have been able to up their game a tad at that point - think of the amount of games we have roared back in over the last few years. They didn't.

That does not change the fact that the game turned on that goal. 1-0 victories are always decided by one goal,

neoboy, as my post is related to other posts and follows on from other posts I have made, I am not blaming the defeat on the beach ball. I am blaming the goal on it though. Fair?
