It was against Arsenal, on Fabregas. That's pretty much the only reason I'm (vaguely) making a fuss about it :P

Maybe, I don't remember it though.
To reiterate, the contact was outside the box! There is no way it was made in the box. I dunno who has analysed it to be in but it clearly was not. I'd like to see the proof.

Our defence, although obviously quite good overall, has been shakier than I would want. The Reading free kick must be the first we have conceded from a similar situation for such a long time. Hypia and Carra as a partnership do lack a bit of pace and, watching that goal, Riise really looked lumbering as he "chased" back.

Bad result but I don't think it was that bad a performance. If the penalty had not have been given and we had got 1 of the 3 pens in the first half (one of which was BLATANT), then we would have won easily imho. It didn't happen so we didn't.

It was Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson who analysed and said that the referee made the right call. They did look at it a few times, and being at the game it looked like a pen at the time due to the momentum of the players.

In both of the incidents involving Torres, the defender got a touch on the ball. They were both slight touches, but touches nonetheless.

Mark Lawrenson may have been a player but he is also a very poor pundit - most people are aware of that. I don't need a pundit to tell me what I can see - that is that it was outside the box. Sonko did not get a touch, however slight on the one where he was running across goal. Running at goal, some might say the chance had gone but he caught him and not the ball. The one across goal was right in front of the ref.

And you saw all of these incidents on the multiple replays on MOTD ? Starting to sound like sour grapes to me, i was purely stating the facts to you as you suggested you didn't know them and you've shot them down like i made them up.

Ah well, best of luck in the champs league in the week.

I like Lawrenson as a pundit. He's funny. Click

The only thing that was inside the box was the attacking players outstretched foot, but according to the guys on match of the day that means its a penalty under the rules.

What about countless replays from various angles CLEARLY showing he was inside the box? It's a fact.

Fair play to Reading. They played pretty well and it is good, for the game, that teams like Reading do well. Hopefully they can get bigger as they have been a total credit to the league since coming up.

If the rule is really as they appear to have said it is on Match of the Day (cheers rmoxon), why in the past have analysts always spent so much time talking about first contact and the contact that actually brought someone down. I remember that the penalty we got against Everton was said by some to be "an OK tackle" cos the first contact was outside the box (although there was plenty in the box) so it should have been outside. I remember pundits then clearly saying that the *final* contact was in the box.

To be honest, it does not matter - the result is done and its not going to change. I just didn't realise that the rules were such that "falling" in the box was a pen I guess.

Sissoko fuming - hope this means he's off his pop. Too many mistakes outweigh the good for me and I hope we offload him for some money while (I hope) we still can.

Aye to be fair he is a good player but Liverpool's midfield is just full of quality players and he isnt really up to their standard. Mascherano, Gerrard, Alonso and Lucas are all better then him in the center.

I like Momo but he has not progressed as he should have done. His tackling and workrate is really good and so he works well with everyone (except Masch imo) but his distribution is not exactly great. He has played well for us in a number of situations but I think, oddly, he does better against better opposition - he makes the tackle and gives it short. He reminds me a little of Traore actually and I don't mean that in a liability way. Traore was actually half an excellent defender - his takles were usually good but he just gave it away AFTER getting it. Same as Momo sometimes.
I would say that he does appear to be the 5th best CM we have at the mo.

I think you're right. He's good at frustrating players (and oppossing players ) in centre of the field, but I just don't think there's much need for him in the current set up. The boy has not much skill in passing or control of the ball.

If I had not known what his original posn, I would not be so surprised. The guy was originally (I think when Rafa saw him) a striker!
