Seep bladder said the Chinese invented footy today.

The last world cup was crap because international footy is a busted flush and it doesn't really matter where you hold it, too many 2 bob nations that didn't exist 10 years ago with a population of 20,000 and knackered players who value club footy far more.

Its had it's day. Russia was probably a better choice than us anyway. Qatar though is nuts.

The reason the BBC scuppered it with panorama is they wouldn't get to fly 500 staff anywhere if it was here.

      I know its j/k comment
It is the press job to report the truth and if FIFA is corrupt as both the papers and TV made out, they we never had a chance before the stories broke it is silly to even try and blame the BBC or the papers

Still lets hope we get the Euro one day again, to prove to those FIFA twats the show we can put on

I noticed that's twice you've mentioned that now. Just curious but what does it have to do with anything football related?

Alcohol doesn't either (directly), but that's gonna be a big deal I imagine in the country... I think the point was that awarding the World Cup to Qatar is like how Beijing was awarded the 2008 Olympics. Evidently regime directions and human rights abuses don't matter, only money does.
Lie with passion and be forever damned...

Fans typically tend not to enjoy being flogged because of laws promoting bigotry and discrimination.

Another fun Qatar law: Having traces of a drug in your bloodstream is enough to get you arrested for drug possesion. As is having traces on your shoe (as in <10ppm).

Those hot south american girls in the crowd like at south africa? Not going to be any here. Bare shoulders and short skirts can result in flogging (if you're muslim) or expulsion.

haha, Russia and Qatar. FIFA are corrupted crooks, but whats new?

Anyway, we in Holland are overjoyed that we did not win it (50 against 30 to be exact). Thats right, the public didn't want the FIFA crooks here at all, didn't want to be stacked with too big stadiums (thats even worse for Belgium) and raised taxes. Just the politicians, Gullit and Cruyff wanted it.

Same opinion in England? Or did the majority really want it..?

As a football fan I would've seen it go to England. The stadiums are in place, the infrastructure is there, its a football mad country just like we are. But bigger. I think that true footballing countries put up a better tourney in general, to me its not surprising that US, Korea and Africa tourneys were all so crap. I think we organized the best European championships ever for example (Euro 2000). Perhaps players feel it too, I don't think they really want to play ball in the sandbox.

Our bid was pathetic, it was about a 'green' tourney. How naive, its the FIFA and Blatter you're dealing with. That guy wants to see ordinary cash, and nothing green.

Giving a world cup to a country of 1.5million people... How in any way does that benefit football?

Whoop de doo, they're disassembling the stadiums and shipping them off to third world countries. What are countries with barely any footballing infrastructure going to do with a single large capacity stadium aside from letting them fall into disrepair?

                  Qatar makes perfect sense!

But its funny to see how uninformed the Americans are. Obama was surprised that they lost against such a tiny country. He obviously doesn't know how the FIFA works. Qatar has cash, and lots of it.

What with Blatter's warning to the other FIFA voters about the evils of the British media it is interesting to note where all the bid countries rank on the current Press Freedom Index.

                    Netherlands (3)/Belgium (14)
                    Japan (12)
                    Australia (18)
England (19 as part of UK)
                    USA (20)
                    Spain (39)/Portugal (40)
                    South Korea (42)
                    Qatar (120)
                    Russia (140)

Shouldn't think there will be any bad news days for FIFA in the host countries media.

Some of this stuff being posted is borderline libellous in it's implication.

Haven't we got the Champions League final at Wembly this season? We need to go all out in that now and show the world what they'll be missing out on.

what does that actually mean, how does hosting a one off of the biggest game in football where half the tickets are sold to fans of the clubs prove we were the best bet to sell out a 50,000 ground in Bristol hosting Moldova v Congo ?

We'd certainly do better than a country with 1/50th our population.

As for Russia... People following their teams could face 4000mile trips between games

If it means that annoying band that play The Great Escape theme in all the England matches has a chance of being flogged, then personally I'm all for Qatar.
