Hansen has been going down in my estimations recently. Its really beginning to rile me that pundits and commentators rarely do any research nowadays. They're paid loads of money to watch football and they cant even be bothered to research what they're going to watch.

Most people, if given the opportunity, would love to do something like that and throw themselves into it wholeheartedly. The current crop are just trading upon their past glories as players.

We were talking about that the other day. How refreshing would it be if the analysts were honest and said how utterly ****e team "A" were. Shearer came the closest by slating England but even he tempered it a bit by looking for positives where there were none.

I think the broadcasting companies must some kind of restrictions on them to stop them being outright abusive of any team playing toss. There should be an alternative analysis channel with fans, lol.

its not just that the pundits are useless but the attitude that anybody who does have some knowledge needs shouting down and outing as a swot, that total c*nt Shearer being the worst culprit as he does it with anger, old bunface on ITV does the same in his own tedious way.

worst bit being when Craig Johnston, a very shrewd bloke who invented the Predator boot amongst other things, was discussing the construction of the ball and its aerodynamics and Shearer just cut in and shouted over him.

I've noticed that i do quite like listening to Clarence Seedorf but when he starts saying something worth listening to, Hansen and Shearer make a joke and move the subject to something requiring less thinking on their part

The pundits on the radio are much better. Or should that be bitter? Alan Green could snark at Olympic levels, and the rant from Waddle after the England game was priceless.

in short tv punditry is the difference between this :-

              and

'the germans are always organised and played with pride and passion'

this got lost a bit in yesterdays evening match, according to FIFA official stats Stevie Me is one of the best 10 players at the finals !

I wouldn't say that was entirely fair merf, I've seen plenty of reasonable analysis about positioning and movement on MOTD, even though they're only allocated a very small slot. For live games, the turnaround time for decent analysis at half time and immediately after the game is very small, and usually results in those lazy soundbites which tell us very little.

Yes I like listening to Clarence too, remember Strachan giving some in depth tactical analysis some time ago and Hansen & co were responding with some almost childish comments about it being way over their heads.

Watching on TV with the radio on for commentary is always the best option. BBC online even gives you that option.

Oh, so it was the expectation on Wayne Rooney that was responsible for his poor World Cup showing? You repeatedly playing him when he was clearly injured/knackered and your over-reliance on him to single-handedly carry your team's goal-scoring threat last season didn't play a part, then?

Great manager, but a deplorable hypocrite of a person.

I think its somewhere inbetween the two tbh. Fergie was definately guilty of playing him injured but i also have to agree with what he says about the level of expectation on the player and the squad in general.

This has been talked about before on here that the press and the players like to tell everyone that they can win it thus creating pressure on themslves to do so. When they they inevitably don't, the mudslinging, accusations and excuses start

Its not bad to say you can win it. Its actually bad to not really believe in it. Judging by the way they played, they never believed in it. England didn't play like a team, and players didn't play on their preferred positions.

Based on individual skill and players, sure England could win it. I wouldn't say their squad is much worse than that of the current semi finalists.

With a group win in that group (which should be mandatory when under normal circumstances), they whould've faced Ghana and then Uruguay and be at the last 4. Absolutely not unrealistic and certainly not impossible.

                                Much better without Jim Beglin.
