Kuyt's goal was probably our best move of the match.

Not a decision made on his own interpretation like 'was that a handball?' or 'was that a foul?' but a matter of fact. The beach ball goal was an illegal goal, today's technically wasn't.
The point I believe that is being made is that the beach ball goal was a freak goal with no players to blame. The officials made an incorrect decision that day, just like Atwell (jokes) did yesterday.
The difference for me is that the Liverpool players actively took part in the Atwell incident. I'll be honest, I don't blame them, just Atwell. To be honest though, yet again (just like Arsena vs Bolton) Atwell was let down by his assistants again. If they are going to call them assistants in stead of linesmen then they need to start actiing as though they have any clue about the sport.

From Groin of Gorgonzola on 606: "Oh what a surprise... Jonny Evans is responsible for a conceded goal YET AGAIN. This guy is a liability. Absolutely atrocious and will never be fit to wear the United shirt. Now watch Bolton not come out of their own half for the next 83 minutes. Disgrace."
Don't see what that bloke is worried about, no way we'll win this match.

am i the only one who thinks the sunderland defender should take a certain amount of responsibility for this? the ball was in the right place for the free kick, the keeper was not running up to take it (he was 40 yards away), the ref had blown for the free kick to be taken and he kicked the ball. it would be like a player taking a bad throw in and then saying to the ref that he didn't mean to take the throw, he was just giving the ball to another player to take it.
Personally I don't really see what the ref did wrong - he is there to apply the laws of the game which he did. as a watford fan i am certainly no fan of atwell but in this case i think the fault lies with the defender - the free kick was ready to be taken and he kicked the ball - if he didn't want to take it then he should have just left the ball alone.

Well, after watching the entire incident I can see exactly why Atwell did what he did.
He made the player respot the ball after it was taken out of position and moving. The player put the ball back to where it was meant to be, made sure it wasn't moving then decided to kick the ball back to the keeper to take the free kick. Confusion all around, sadly. The rules of the game were applied according to the company who supplies the refs though.
I think its funny people mention sportsmanship. There hasn't been any for many many years in football. Since I can remember following Liverpool during the Evans era I cant remember much sportsmanship from any team. Thats the way the game is now.

Torres wasn't 10 yards away from the kick, rather, 7 or 8 away. The centre spot to the end of the circle is 10 yards; Torres on the edge of the circle was noticably closer to Turner over a comparable distance.
A crude graphic, but it shows him within encroachment distance.
Shame the ref boys can't apply all the rules when they're covering arses.Last edited by prinnysquad; 26-09-2010, 21:48.

thing is it gets abused, I'm fed up of watching players go down injured and staying down for no reason other than to break up and stop and opponents attack, then they give the ball back when regrouped and thats described as sporting rathing than cheating.
at all levels the game is about cheating and conning and winning at any cost, you can witness this when you watch kids footy and every team now has a Rory Delap merchant who hurls in howitzers, god help that they should practice control or passing.
end of old person moan, it wasn't actually better in my day though.

I see us getting 1 point maximum out of that lot.
Now on 8 points from 7 games, way better than hoped for. With a bit of extra luck we many have had wins against ManYoo and Liverpool.
I still see no points from Blackburn though, we never get anything there.
