Manchester United defender Wes Brown is set to have a medical at Sunderland.

The Black Cats had a joint bid for more than ?12m for Brown, fellow defender John O'Shea and midfielder Darron Gibson accepted in June.

What's going on at Sunderland? He's buying practically an entirely new first team.

He's had to - last year's first team were either loan signings or sold.

Loan players, either returned to parent clubs, or loaned out from Sunlun.

Long term crocks

Expect O'Shea in soon, then the second striker and left back problems to be resolved. Hopefully.

Kinda suprised how Chelsea are being linked with so few players. Before the manager was announced it was thought we'd buy 3 new strikers and the entire Brazil national squad. Now it's an attacking midfielder and a right back we seem to be after. Of the players on the way out, Kalou and Alex seem the most likely.

God knows why we made our useless assistant coach the director of football. Still, it's not the squad that was the problem last season as much the motivation and tactics so it could be good moving him further away from the players.

I quite like this. It implies that Villas Boas wants to see what he's got to work with before making any rash transfers and then having to work around them.

think its also indicative that the window still has 2 months to run, think the activity will hot up now pre-season is getting underway.

as a gooner I'm actually quite relaxed about the ins & outs - don't care how good people want to argue players are we didn't win with them so need to change things, though shuffling around some forwards and midfielders does miss the point we can't defend corners and have a softer middle than a rolo left in the car on a hot day.

O'Shea will serve you well Prinny he's a quality player and a good lad. Wes Brown likes to give away penalties whilst simultaneously getting injured at the same time :woot:

I have a lot of misgivings about Brown, but apparently he only cost ?1 million. I'm hoping he'll be useful as a squad player to fill in when Turner, Bramble and O'Shea need a rest.

I kinda hope we pull out of the Gibson deal now. The bid for all three was ?12 million, which means he constitutes at least ?5 million of that fee. We already have Sophieellisbextor Larsson and Uphill Gardner, so I can't see where he'll fit in. I'd rather we went great guns for a half-decent right back like Hutton, or move Bardsley back to RB and bring in a proper left back.

Bad IMO.

He thinks he has an awesome shot, I think he did have once.
Maybe a decent run in the team will serve him well, the jury is well and truly out mate.
