Depends what other consoles you got. If you got an xbox or pc i`d wait cause it does suffer from stuttering and frame rate dips so hopefully the xbox and pc will do it justice. It is a great game though but it`s debatable whether it`s a game you buy a console for though.

If there`s other games you would like to play on the ps2 then i`d say spend ?100 and go buy a ps2. If theres only san andreas then i`d say wait.

Penguin Lad - I think you must have got into some army/government territory because when you do your wanted level gets instantly raised to 4*.
Nah, it happens if you manage to get into a state your not yet meant to be in as well. It happened to me when I went exploring, except my adventure was no way near as exciting as Penguins.

Olympic, if you leave the first island before you are meant to you get instant 4-star. There are a sevearl ways you can do it, either by boat, swimming, train or flying.

It's cool that you can 'break' the game by going somewhere you aren't meant too, but obviously the missions aren't there so you are limited in what you can do (and with 4 stars, limited to how long you can last ).

I've just done two enjoyable missions on a motorbike, the first I was driving and the second I wasn't. You just knew that storm drain would be used for a T2 reference!

Awesome! I've not done that mission yet, but after reading that I'm looking oh so forward to doing it!

              *spoilers*

YES!! A while back I found an old looking car around the back of a garage. I needed a ride so I thought I'd try it. I enter the car and:

Press R3 to start Pimping missions.

Woo! So first things first. I take the vehicle and get it sprayed pink on the outside, and the upholstery changed to red on the inside. Classy. I also stuck a nitro x2 in there to see what it did...Then I start the mission.
Pick up a girl, take her to a location within a couple of minutes. She gets out, then you have to pick up another and do the same. Once you've dropped of the second girl, you have to retrieve the first girl. First payment $300. Then take her to another locations, and retrieve the other girl etc.
I tell you I felt like the proper mack daddy pimp in the car. I also discovered it was pre-hydraliced up!
So I then get upto about x7, which means I've made thousands of dollars in quite a short space of time. Then one of the girls says one guy isn't paying, so I have to run him down. The deed is done, I drop her off, and pick up the other girl...and the message that pops up is:

My pimping level then hits maximum and I get the message:
"Pimping Complete. Prostitues will now pay YOU to have relations with them!"

              RESULT!

Driving the low-rider cars is really amusing - the amount of times I've made them roll over just by going around a corner I also can't help but wiggle the right stick while driving, just because it looks so stupid!

I've had a bit of a breakthrough on the game now and am finally getting used to the mechanics. I really struggled with Vice City and initially struggled with this one, but things are now becoming better as I'm able to just play the game rather than fight it.

                      Addictive stuff!

I'm still crap at the police, ambulance, fire and pimp missions though - I haven't succeeded on a single level. Got quite far on the shumup in CJ's house, despite the fact it is complete arse.

Finally on the second map at last.
Loving this - Easily my favourite GTA, and it's walking away into the distance with game of the year for me if the game continues as it is.

If you thought Los Santos was huge wait until you check out the Badlands (the area surrounding San Fierro). It's vast - Roughly as big as something like the entire lake district.

The graphics really shine in these parts too. There's loads of geographical diversity to the scenery, with it being especially fun to take a dirt bike or a minature BF Injection and just ride around for ages until you find the biggest hill and then drop off.

Those moments really show the huge amount of draw distance too.

With regards to the diversity of the level design, San Andreas is just so much more ambitious than GTA III and Vice City. It really is possible to get lost in the countryside on the second area - And I mean completely (as in 'where the hell I am I? Even though I've got the map right here') lost.

The amusing thing on top of that of course is that I've only explored about a third of what's available in and around San Fierro so far.

This kind of scope is simply scary in it's expanse and ambition.

Some nice impressions there. I've also come to grips with the controls a bit more and it's just making the game more addictive. Looking at the amount of hours I'll lose in the game it's going to be well worth it's money.

Penquin, I believe you forgot to lower your landing gear (think it's in the booklet). Too bad because you were so close

I noticed this last night (the landing gear) as I hopped over the wall and took a lear jet away for a quick spin. Although I hit the building, and the plane started to burn...so I jumped out and hit a building square on - dead.

However the crop duster type plane I used (might have been a dodo I can't recall it was all very exciting and nerve wracking) had a fixed undercarriage so it could not be raised or lowered.
I honestly believe it was a slightly bumpy landing, and the fact that the plane was trailing back smoke

Still a little gutted. I just wish I had videotaped it!

                              You can jack planes?

I thought it was limited to helicopters still (apart from the dodo)?

Well, surely that's got to be all bases covered then, vehicle-wise in the series now?

Out of curiosity, can you fly higher than you could in Vice City (as in more than five or six blocks high)? It was always one of my criticisms of that game, because I often wondered what it'd be like to fly up to the highest skyscraper.

I'm not doing so well in those missions either. They seem a little harder this time around, although the ambulance is thankfully more heavier to control.

There's one thing this game guarantees you: Time.

Keep playing and no doubt the side-missions will become much more easier to get accustomed with. Probably at about 150 hours in.
