You do know you can look through Snake's eyes to see everything in front of you? Or crouch against a wall or object to look behind it, or look around a corner. Plus you can move the camera around a 2D plane on Snake with the right analog stick.

I didn't have a single big problem with the camera in MGS3. Whenever I thought it might be a problem I could easily overcome it with the above methods.

But I couldn't even get into Splinter Cell because of the camera (that and it's boring)

yeah i'm aware you can switch to a stationary first person view, but that actually allows you to see less of your surrounding than a 3rd person viewpoint (not having peripheral vision). the camera does move a bit i.e. an inch on each axis but there is no real advantage compared to being able to rotate it a ful 360 degress and adjust the viewing height/angle, as in SC.

I love both MGS and Splinter... I dont compare them as they do completely different things with the Stealth and how it is controlled... both have great techniques to aid you in your undetected killing spree

The camera in MG has ALWAYS been like this, it has remained through 3 incarnations for a reason... it succesfully allows you (if you are willing) to use your tools and environment to play stealthily. The radar was no great loss... and these arguements are fueled by players who obviously relied to heavily on it.

how would improving the camera prevent you from doing this?

The camera is probably at it's worst when the game forces you to run, like in alert mode. That's when you blunder into guards without seeing them.

At least you have a lot of advantages in close combat to help you get out of trouble.

My point is the camera has been maintained because it has worked and worked well. It never took anything away from the game, it has not needed improving.

There will always be folk who dislike certain control or design aspects of games. Simply, everyone can't be catered for!! I think the majority who have played the game can adapt to its method.

The problem MGS has is that Splinter Cell is doing the same thing but in a different way and some people will think Splinter Cell method is better.

For me both work well and am I willing to spend time working with both to get the most out of both systems. You dont appear to be willing or able to do this with Snake Eater so Splinter is your choice, that is fair enough!!

Next topic, who has the best knife moves??? hehehe!! May have to go with Sam Fisher on that one

it worked in conjunction with the radar, now they'e taken that away it's a case of constantly switching back and forth between 1st and 3rd person views, triggering the sonar and wrangling with the awfully restricted camera movement on the right analogue stick. by taking away the radar and not improving the camera they've actually made the game more frustrating.

of course. most will put up with it because it's a good game in spite of the camera issues but that shouldn't mean it can't be improved.

it's not really about which is the better game overall but SC's camera is far less restrictive than MGS. that's a fact.

nah that's not what i'm saying. i'm just commenting and discussing them with what i think are fair comparisons. this isn't MGS vs SC.

Never used the sonar until playing the Snake v Monkey mini game the other day, you don't get it on Hard and above.

i don't use it much either because it's pretty useless.

Just got the game this afternoon, and so far im having very little success :<

Ive just managed to alert every single person ive come across! Just generally, being about as sneaky as a cow on rollerskates. Managed to dart across the whole area alerting everyone just past the bridge. Not to great at this yet.

Havnt saved the game yet, but i think i need to look at the controls for this in the main menu. I managed to follow the first baddy, and just sneak along the floor next to him, go through the tree log, and after going through that,i stood up...started sneaking up behind him and he turns round and twats me in the head. >_< This has happened to me multiple times now, its just not working.

On MGS2, to get them in the chokehold from behind was just to hit Square...or in this case its Circle right? Hmmmm, well, feel free to gimme a helping hand on the control aspect here...im gonna check the main menu again for it too.

Oh yeah, and when eating the croc or snake, isnt their meant to be a little cutscene? or is that just within the menu your health\stamina goes up?

Also, this begining bit, should I be aiming to get through this whole section without killing anyone? Can you collect dog tags and stuff? This was just a quick post so i prolly didnt make any sense, im going back to the game, will check back for some help here soon.

For some reason you dot have to be as close to guards as in MGS2 to grab them... move to within 2metres (Scale obviously ) of them and you should be able to grab them. It works using the pressure sensitive buttons so you have to hold O lightly to keep them held... the instructions detail it all!! Play about in the first area with the CQC. This helped me out a lot!!

You get a small cut scene of eating foodin the food menu when th game is paused, I think it is the L2 button (Viewer) to see it, quite cool!!

                        Hope this helps!!

Thanks, didnt know about the pressure sensative buttons.

Oh, and i still dont see no cutscene of eating a snake I can press R2 and that lets me view the food and spin it around and stuff, thats it. :/

Just tried the Snake vs Monkey. Great script

                          "Did you say Monkeys?!"

Jassi - The "viewer" of him eating stuff seems to happen after the first section of the game so it depends if you're past the "proper" intro yet I think !

Pressure Senstive buttons on PS2 pad = bad idea IMO but I don't want to start another banter session as the camera one we've just gone through !

No dog tag collecting then? Managed to walk up behind a gaurd and made him put his hands up like in MGS2. He didnt drop no dog tag though. Oh well.

Also, just KO'ed the first gaurd without being spotted.

Right chaps, is this game worth buying a PS2 for?

I had Metal Gear Solid: Sons of Liberty when that was first out, and I enjoyed that. Bearing in mind though I had no other games to play at the time. I bought the remake of Metal Gear Solid on the GC, almost finished that, but then for some reason stopped right at the end. But, enjoyed that again too.

Is it worth getting a PS2 for? What's the rough lifespan of one play through?
