Ah yeah, well thankfully that painful feature is gone. When you win you get a specific car, none of the teasing you with a formula one car only to give you the car you just won the 10-race series with.

Right, went back to the mission hall. I read there was a slipstream set of missions and after a little poke around the menus I found them, they are all on the big oval test circuit from what I can tell. I did three without problem, first time each one. Then I come to what looks like the last one, (not that I did them in order). Mission 23, skylines. Okay, here goes... Bing!! I take the controls from the rollling start. i take a while to catch the first car. Just as I do I notice the next car, really close. I think this is odd as the other missions had the cars all spaced so they didn't slipstream each other. As I pass the first car I see that all the cars are in one great big bunch. Steam past them all, ha! Another easy victory. Stay on the inside of the track, they stay out wide and so gain no speed from me, the money is in the bank. Lap 2: uneventful. Lap 3, cruising on the back straight, hang on a minute. Position 2??? Noooooo!!! You are supposed to team up with position 2 to 5 and work as a team to overtake the front car that is miles away from the pack. Genius!! I've been playing it for a while now and keep seeing the front car earlier each attempt but I haven't quite got in his slipstream. Fantastic mode, and I think it is open from the start, (license permitting).
The AI does a fair job of avoiding you when overtaking, but I think each car is set up with different levels of aggression, assuming b-spec reveals some of the inner workings of the game. The silver car on mine, (might be different every session), really goes for it and sometimes catches the back of my car when passing, sending me into a massive spin at 200mph. 4 or 5 revolutions later, restart...
I haven't noticed that I win the car I raced in like in GT3. Although I am only 28ish% through. The manufacturer's races will give you similar cars, eg. renault clio race you need to be in a clio and you win a race clio, but you can't buy that car. The non-manufacturer races give you all sorts of cars, the best so far coming from the endurance races, (900+bhp cars). I think all the themed races give you a beefy version of the type of car you need to compete with. The special condition races, (wet, hilly, dirt and the ultra challenging snow&ice tracks) seem to give rally cars for example.
One more thing. Did I mention this game is superb?!

It's a shame the same sort of glitches... no, wrong word... features can be used to get an advantage in earning money though. There are stacks of sexy rally cars to be won, most sell for around 26,000,000 but as a player can reset records and events, re-win the car and sell it again takes some of the challenge out of some events. Not that I've done that as the enjoyment comes from the challenge most races provide and the variety of events on offer. It's a shame easy tricks like this are still available though, present in all the GT games.
Did you check the wind effects for the drafting, razu? Wicked innit.

Just checked out those movies. I think I'll give up now!!!
ThoseOfTheUnlight, yes, my pack included the 200 page book in the slip case. I also got a picture of a Lancia Delta Rally Car backed with thick card. Printed in a Epson printed!!!
I found the reset for the events and have done the Roadster & Spider one a few time (for a little cash). Has anyone found a race that the Prowler can enter?
After about 24 hours play (Friday afternoon onwards) I am at almost 15% complete.
I finally managed to get some images to the USB drive. Must check out details of what options I have with Photo Mode.
I find the A-spec points disappointing at times. I can be down for a few points and still find it a hard race. Others are easy and I seem to get more points for them. There must be some logic to them somewhere.
The AI can be a pain at times as they do seem to go for their line regardless of where you are on the road.
The BMW M Series Championship was a little disappointing. For 5 races including 2 laps of the 'Ring I won an M3 GTR Road Car. My slightly modded M5 was a reasonable choice managed a fairly tidy 16:04 overall for the two laps. Mostly kept on the hard stuff!!
Best money from a Championship so far was the Honda Type R one. I used the NSX-R I'd just won (low A-spec points though). There was 1,000,000 a race with a finishing prize of 7,500,000. The prize was a Civic Racer. Must check to see how much that is worth to see whether it is worth racing again for the money and the car. 10 laps of Motor Sports Land was a little boring though. I tried B-spec mode (as a separate attempt) on that but the AI had difficulty getting passed everyone.Last edited by Bassman; 24-01-2005, 06:48.

Compared to b-spec mode, rewinning cars to sell them is nowhere near as bad. With b-spec you can start a 1000km race, go to work, when you get back, 75M bux!! Free money, no effort required. If you're away for 24 hours, set it to the nurburgring event, 120,000,000 credits plus a new car will await when you return.
Still, all that cash won't help you win the missions or get all golds in the tests.
