Does the US version have the same checkpoint system as the JPN version? I know the PAL version has this Checkpopint system taken out, which I think was a very foolish move by Capcom!

I can understand why a lot of people find this difficult, frustrating and as such unappealing. I, myself gave up on DMC1 due to the difficulty and constant restarting of failed missions...

Now with the JPN version of DMC3 Capcom included a checkpoint system through every level to allow you continue not too far back from where you died.
This is a major help to people (like myself) who are getting used to the game as it still gives them the feeling of progression as you play altho still being tough. I found my first run through pretty damn tough going, it took me over 15 hours to get through the game...But in doing so I have got myself versed with the game and in the ways of Dante! I immediately started Hard mode and pi$$ed through it in a few hours!

I now undersstand the game a whole lot more and see where all the appeal comes from. I now find the game a joy to play (apart from some annoying camera views sometimes >_< ) and I am currently trying to get through DMD mode (altho this is proves somewhat more tricky....Damn you Cerberus!!)

I feel for the people who have the PAL version of this game as you will find the game VERY tough going. The only thing I can say is 'stick with it!!' eventually it will begin to click and when it does...you will realise why this game is so damn good and the power of the Dante.

I've only just finished Normal, but put in some serious work on it Levelling up all styles (except Royalguard) and maxing out all weapons/actions. Also getting my meths down like when best to go charged/release Devil Trigger, learning Boss patterns, trying to stay in Showtime during fights. Didn't want to rush straight through abusing vitality and continues, if I got pwned I just went back to practicing

The continue system did annoy me at first but I got used it eventually. Basically I won't start a mission unless I've got plenty of health items. If not, then I go back and level up.

What boss you fighting then?? Is that the Chariot??

To become as good as you need to be at this, you have to go back and replay early levels to death. You can basically become as good as you want to be... given the right amount of time and a hint of natural gaming ability you can make Dante the most powerful character in gaming history.

For me, Rebellion and Cerberus are the weapons of choice. I use all the styles with Swordmaster being my forte but these weapons are withouth doubt the most amazing looking when teamed up. I love Beowulf but it doesn't offer me the speed I want (and kinda need) for Dante Must Die mode. Takes a bit of practice, especially with Cerberus not having the Air Hike but with a solid use of weapon switching this is not a problem

The depth on offer in DMC3 really is amazing... it hurts to know there are copies of this out there that are just not getting ripped apart. Sparda will be turning in his grave

It is the PAL version I have finshed on Normal and Hard... Hard game was easier than Normal run through!! All moves and weapons maxed. All but Trickster maxed... a fully upgraded Royal Guard is scary when used in the right hands!!

The continue system was a pain and I only used a continue if I was on a boss. The were cheap so wasn't too bad. My first play through took 22 hours but I played previous levels TO DEATH to get styles and weapons upgraded. By the time I moved onto my Hard game I was an untouchable Demon slayer blessed by the lord

I dont post on forums anymore but Uli pissed me off enough with that garbage that I had to come back to represent for MY no.1 key bredrin from way back - Dante!
This is my favourite game of this generation, it's the best action adventure game I have ever had the pleasure of playing and I can see myself on it this time next year. I've maxed out the play timer weeks ago and still play it daily and I aint joking, every time I play this game I find some new little quirk to the fighting system that just blows me away - the degree of control you have over Dante is unbelievable. The freedom you have goes so far as to allow you to eliminate the delays and weaknesses of one melee weapon with moves from the other, you can cancel any move you like into evades, parries, counters, more moves, jumps - whatever you like. Every single weapon has it's own massive range of properties - some slashes and animations can be cancelled while others cannot, when you learn what slashes can be manipulated, cancelled and switched over to the other weapon you can keep Dante's movement constant and flowing from ground based to aerial combos. You have complete control in the air aswell - with practice you can keep Dante airbourne for the duration of entire fights if you feel like it.

Uli mentions there's no block or parry - anything in this game that can cause damage to Dante can be parried, and I mean EVERYTHING! Even rotating blades on the sides of some rooms, blud I've stood on top of those things parrying in a rhythm which can continue indefinetly. If you actually pay attention to the game and learn how to play it before progressing through you'll notice the game works on audio cues - this is what elevates it far beyond games like God Of War with it's simple single flow system and extremely basic enemies to deal with. You have enemies all around you, your evade is safe as long as you time it right so you rely on audio cues off the unseen enemies as a key to simply jump or roll - it's extremely simple, all you have to do is stop banging buttons for a second to pay attention.
The enemies and bosses will clearly announce for you not only when they are going to attack but also what attack they are going to do, this can be learn and you start to truly pwn the place up with Dante as soon as you get this down. I've spend the last few weeks playing against bosses, learning the attack cues and parry timings - if the controls are so innacurate, why am I perfecting bosses? There's nothing special about me - I just bother to learn how to play and because of that I've found that this game's depth is actually beyond everything of this game type that has come before it by a ridiculous margin.

              Parrying 1

              Parrying 2

              Parrying 3

              Parrying 4

Full blown supermove parried with ease - timed via spoken sentence.

Why are you in mission 5 anyway? Why not use mission 1 and 2 to learn how to play? This isnt like God Of War or Ninja Gaiden, this is a full blown beat em up - Dante is a completely different character depending on his setup and Style so there's a hell of a lot for you to get to grips with. Pick a setup you're OK with, go to mission 1 and learn how to play! You learn everything there, from audio cues to Aerial Raves.

Anyway I cant be ****ed with you - I'm going away to obsess over Dante some more.

Here's some more of that broken, inacurate control for you (Mardigan bruv - this **** is for you) -

Because of people like Uli - I'm absolutely sick of this **** and it destroys my flow when I'm playing aswell cos the **** they chat is still on my mind and I dont want it.

I'm up to what I estimate around 190 hours playtime and I'm STILL learning and still finding out more and more new stuff daily! I cant be bothered with all the hating - these games are too much fun.

Seriously though you really should ignore those posters you don't like. I've found some of your posts to be extremely helpful in improving my skill with games like Viewtiful Joe, Bujingai, Psyvariar etc...

Hope EG use your Devil May Cry 3 Feature mate, I think there will be many a player blowing up at some of the stuff you can do with Dante.

Words of wisdom from Saurian as usual If there's a problem or mistake then it's the player's fault, not the games

Excellent videos as well, Saurian. It's shown me something to aspire to - I'm still playing Gunslinger style and I don't want to move over to Royal Guard yet. I haven't even touched the other styles Played it for 16 hours and it feels like I don't even know what I've missed out on yet

If you have been consistently levelling your abilities and styles up in you normal game hard will be immense fun. Top end use of Royal Guard is where all Dantors should aspire to. Its where you become untouchable!!

When you get to a level where you start thinking "Hhmmm, I would quite like to have been able to switch styles mid fight at THAT move junction", you know you are getting there with the controls. Finding a combo path that aint been used before gives you great satisfaction. Now... the implementation of style switchin is one for the future. Lets hope that is explored in lots of detail as the current set-up obviously has.

While a game time of 190 hours sounds insane, those of us who understand what DMC3 offers will see this is where we all want to be

I spent 25 hours getting through Normal probably about a third of that was spent in the first and second missions learning how to control Dante and levelling up styles and orbs. When I reached the back to back boss encounter Dante was so cocky he fought them all with easy 8)
