Nah, don't ever kill your own guys. Just hit up a dungeon. By the time you've come out, if you've used one main guy to kill as many as you can he should come out with enough to make a nice building. I'm at around the 100 hours mark and I'm still only using a level 88 academy that I made way back in the main story. I don't think it's level has been an issue more than once or twice. Tactical deployment of buildings is the key!

If you kill your leader (who won't totally die) do you still get their mana?

If you want the Mana Calculator (Excel Spreadsheet) it can be downloaded from here:

I received Kaido: Touge no Densetsu (Japanese racing game) on Wednesday and have been playing that and MK so I have had a couple of late nights.

How does the level of the building affect the characters? (if it does)

It doesn't - it just means that it has more hit points, so it's more difficult for the enemy to destroy it.

Spent some more time playing this, and finally got a number of my characters above lvl 100 so you can create the training dungeon (need lvl 100 char and needs to have a pice equip as a weapon). The problem is they're really not that much use and are huge mana sinks (2000 at a time). It's a single level dungeon with a grid of 3x3 enemies that you can do area attacks on for good exp, but I've found that you get more exp from the free dungeons.

I've done quite a lot of free dungeons now, and it really is quite annoying that you can't exit and go back in at the same floor, you tend to hit a wall quite quickly with even 70 floor dungeons hitting lvl 200+ characters by floor 40, which often force you to exit early. You can get some really nice weapons and equipment and exp bonuses from them though. One floor of a dungeon I completed last night gave over 250,000 exp bonuses - so an academy plonked on the map filled with peeps made for some nice levelling.

I've managed to beat the first three secret characters, the first two walk away, but you get the third in your party at lvl 1 with no items. These are actually worth seeing the story for - it'll come as no surprise that you'll have seen the bonus characters before, but it's nice to see the storyline behind the character has been blended in to suit MK, losing none of original.

Somehow I've managed to rack up nearly 70 hours, despite saying I was finding it a chore. I guess I'm just determined to see the rest of the bonus levels.

I now have a number if suitably levelled free dungeons ranging from Lvl 11. I have a couple of academies and normally keep my characters in them. At least when I have the characters for a straight invite I can put them in the academy first turn, for the EXP if I can call in facilities.

I haven't touched the game for a couple of days as I am also playing Kaido: Touge no Densetsu (a Japanese racing game).

My characters are around level 33.At the moment i have around 8 free dungeons ranging from level 17 to level 30.I think if i was to go through them my characters would gain quite a few levels and aquire plenty of money.I just need a few hrs to spare.

                        a few questions
How do you gain more buildings (i only have a choice of around 5 or 6 types)
Do the people who are maning the tanks gain experience
Does the academy add 50 experience to all the characters in play or just the people who come from it
And the trader is the items he has for sale directly releated to his level?

Different character job types allow the creation of different buildins - i.e., not all characters can create all buildings.

The people inside the tanks don't gain experience, just the vehicles themselves.

The academy adds 50% experience to anyone who enters and exits the building.

I'm not sure on the trader question (one for GameFaqs I think), though there does seem to be a point where no further items appear in the shop regardless of level, and the only way to acquire the higher stat items seems to be through the bonus guage of high level free dungeons.

Ok - after trawling through Doublejump Books for a while, I found this, it seem that it is partially based on Merchant level, but typically turns out to be far more complex:

merchant/team points = (total merchant and shop levels)/4 + total team level/15 The max of this value is 25

professor point = 1 + (total professor + library levels)/15 The max of this value is 10

buyable rank = merchant/team points + professor points

If you are leveling your team with enough characters, the merchant/team points should already be at 25, so you'll only need 8 more (since you can only buy up to 33 anyways), thus a professor at level 105.

For factory equipment, substitue engineer/factory for merchant/shop.
Also, making multiple professors, merchants and engineers can increase the number their level is divided by. For merchants and engineers this usually doesn't matter because your team level will be high enough, but the professor points can be lowered significantly by creating too many low level profs.

                            From Doublejump on Experience (edited):

Q: Do i invite an Academy loaded with characters i want to lvl onto the field, then dispatch them from the Academy for the +50%?

A: Well, when they're IN the Academy, they have the +50% added to their battle (until its destroyed or O.B'd) or from the bonuses. For an extra bonus, Invite a character and then invite the Academy with that character in range, to get, +30%. Jump into the Academy and they add together.

The Invite Attack will add 30% to a character's EXP gain, on top of the +50% protection effect from the Academy. But a charactrer needs to be out in the field to be hit with an Invite Attack and make sure they have a high enough Res so that they don't get killed.

Q: Do my guys get the extra EXP if they remain IN the Academy during the battle, or if they are dispatched from the Academy into battle?

Is the extra 30% if i drop ANOTHER Academy on the dispatched Academy fighters?

A: They gain the EXP both inside and out. The dropping of the Academy will add an extra 30% to any of your dispatched characters if they are hit by it. Throw the people who were hit by the Academy for 80% in EXP because of the 50% protection from the Academy.

Q: I have 1 Academy, so, for +80% EXP, get my guys on the field THEN drop my 1 Academy on them (+30%). Then have them all jump in the just dropped Academy (+50%)? Then re-dispatch and fight. Correct?

A:: Yup thats all you do and they'll all have 80% increase in EXP gained.

Q: When i make 2 more Academies i just drop all 3 on top, then do the same to get +140?

A: Yup they'll get 140% increase in EXP. Then you throw in feeding them food which doesn't need to be explained until you start making training dungeons. But when you feed them food they'll get an increase in EXP as well. The amount of tec stat on the food item shows how much EXP% will increase. So if you take a carrot which has 10 in its tech stat you'll get an increase of 10% in EXP. If the food is used by a chef then the EXP% is doubled. When you get the food percentages to 900% add that to your 140 and you'll get 1040% increase to EXP.(Sorry if I confused you with that) Also if the character has 80% EXP skill on them (gotten from them transmigrating into the 5th tier carrot class) they'll get a max of 1120% EXP increase on themselves. But that does take a decent amount of food unless you have stockpiled on alot of good ones.

a cool thing i noticed is when i resurrected my shop keeper/trader (where you absorb the star from a item) i then bought a couple of high level items and he levelled up from 1 to around 15-20

I bought a Fairy List (300,000) for Witches a couple of times and got her a level or two each time. Shopkeeper is now over Lvl 30. My 3-Star Cook is progressing in levels (sitting in an Academy at 3-4 mostly at the moment).

I spent most of the weekend setting up my best Witches to have all the elemental Magic. I unfortunalely ran out of space for skills on the last one as I went via Bishop and got all those abilities as well. She is back to Level 50 but only has a basic Fire spell. At least she has INT of about 1600!! I have been detroying the Fortress on 3-4 for the Mana (416 at time plus I presume the occupants Mana). Best hit was over 1000 with that Witch (in the high 40's levelwise with a Mega spell). With my killing hit on the Fortress, with her when she was on Level 1, I got about 21 levels for her instantly. I was over level 30 in three visits.

With a weaker witch there (about 500 INT) I weakened the Fortress down to about 100 HP left. I found that using another witch (even with a 0 hit) with Ice followed by the witch I wanted to level with a Mega WInd (I think) managed enough points to destroy it. I allocated both spells before executing. I think two different elements like that are more likely to cause a hit for the second caster. It certainly seemed that way anyway. Useful for slightly weeker Magic Characters you want to level up.

I came across one map in chapter 5, I think, which, on the first visit had a Level 219 enemy. I managed to weaken it enough before losing every other character on the map so that my Fire Witch could kill it off. That was good for about 8-10 levels to Level 34, I think. I made the mistake of having three of my characters close together and they were killed on the first hit. I kept the others well separated and managed to win.
