Is the US game out yet? I've preordered the US game from Tronix... there was just no way I could pass up on the Limited Edition Japanese version, so I got that too.

Been playing Classic Mode tonight, just reached the guardhouse.
Y'know, I used to find this game so hard back in the day, but I've been finding this piece of piss so far.
True it's got the 180 turn, and I know exactly what I've got to do, but I've only been touched by a zombie once so far, and it still did pretty much no damage.
Maybe I'm a wuss for playing Classic mode first, but this is my only night off this week and I wanted some Resi goodness!
That said, playing this again reminds me what made Resi so great in the first place and why RE4, as great as it is, falls slightly far from the mark in achieving the same.
Main problem with RE4 is that you do not fear what is around the next corner. Emphasis is placed clearly on combat so much that each supposedly scary monster just becomes a source of cash to buy X weapon.
Contrast to this game where every enemy you see is a case of '****, how should I do this? Shoot from here? Try to run around him? Get the **** out of this room completely?'.
Much of this is also thanks to the erry, claustrophobic atmosphere of this game, where you do feel trappped in this small, dark corridors. Just don't get that in RE4.
Don't misunderstand me, I love RE4 to bits. But it's going for something completely different, and this really does still win over my heart.

Go on Capcom. Make my day.
I loved RE4 but like Jake has mentioned, it was very combat heavy rather then throwing scares at you, which was a shame but then again, I think taking RE4 in that direction was positive and hopefully we can have summat similar in RE5 but with some horrific things goin` on.
Obviously images of the 1st zombie in RE spring to mind and seeing Forest after the crows had got him. I loved CVX where the evidence of nasty horrible experiments, death and torture were all around, I think that`s where it needs to go back to.
I remember reading something tears ago about the 1st zombie in the original RE. His eyeball is supposed to have been scanned from a real dead persons eye. I don`t know how true that is though.
WOW! 4th of Feb today! 3 days to go until the US release of REDS, COME ON!!

Well I'm playing the Japanese game right now, if you've played RE before you'll know exactly what your doing... but I still can't wait to play the game over in English when Tronix send out my US one
Finally found out what the 3 options are in the options menu - Control Method, Blood Colour and Microphone Sensitivity.
One minor annoyance in this is that it does not combine items in the chest like later Resi's do... so if you've got 3 shotgun shells to put into the chest and want to combine them with the 10 already in the chest, you've gotta take them out and so it manually.
You'd think with all the additions they've thrown in from later Resi's like 180 turn, auto-aim and the like, they'd of fixed something minor like that
And yes, RE4 level of play with classic RE level of atmosphere, errieness and claustrophobia would be just what the doctor ordered! Nice one with the combat emphasis in RE4 Capcom but lets go back and look and what makes Resi ResiLast edited by sj33; 04-02-2006, 10:13.

Thirdeded...!!
I loved playing through RE GC in no small part because it also captivated my girlfriend. The mixture of suspense and puzzle solving was what done it.See hear
However she took one look at RE4 and said bleurchh! Too action orientated.
I'd like a new resi on the rev with far less emphasis on action and more suspense and puzzles please. Sadly I feel, I will never get my wish!Last edited by gizmo1990; 04-02-2006, 10:33.

Well I always felt that the puzzles in RE were all a bit cack. I would love to see something more threatening, not in an action way but in a sense of impending doom way. A bit less of the firepower and more of a building threat. Like a Night of the Living Dead type scenario. RE from the perspective of an average guy. Given the direction of RE4 (which I still haven't played for more than about an hour), I would say that is highly unlikely.
The atmosphere of the RE GC remake was superb though.

Good to see people like their games scary.
Don't get me wrong, Resi 4 is one of the greatest games I've played. But the only truly disturbing bit for me was when
that sack starts moving inside that box in the jail room.
I didn't hesitate to shoot it.
More stuff like this, with some eerie lighting effects.

Completed this as Chris in Classic Mode today - made my weekend!
This game is definately a lot easier than it was on the PS - The Tyant took 3 Magnum hits, the same as the giant spiderEnemy damage is also greatly reduced to be more in line with later Resi titles. It doesn't hinder the game or anything, but this is definately probably the easiest Resi in Classic mode
Rebirth mode is nails though, so that makes up for it
They over-used the Second Mansion Hallway music in the game so much, it's like they were short of space for music or something =/ Still, not hindering as I say.
Any worries that this is a pointless port should be forgotten - this game works so well on a handheld. And it's great to finally have a proper Resi in your pocket.
My favourite version of the original Resi, bar REmake.

The first mansion hallway music is the most glaring omission, they seem to constantly use the second mansion hallway music (which you don't usually hear until you return from the Guardhouse). This is significant because it somewhat added something when you returned to the mansion with all the Hunters and heard new music with more oomph.
They also use the music in rooms it wasn't used in before (such as the Hall sometimes, which I don;t recall ever having music before).
It's not enough to spoil it, it's just bizzare why they'd do that.
