Yes. Read 159 pages of this thread. :P

On a more serious note... we're not talking Disgaea, FF Tactics or Vagrant Story in terms of initial inaccessibility. The only thing likely to overwhelm you is the amount of choice you're offered, and the scale it takes place inside of. If you approach the game in a non-completist frame of mind where you don't mentally tick every box of everything you want to do (trust me, you'll lose track of the threads you involve yourself in for the opening few hours), then you'll enjoy it a lot more.

You don't need to read the manual and you don't need to have a healthy background/knowledge of Western RPGs to enjoy the experience... all you need is an open mind and a willingness to be immersed.

There's a huge amount of depth if you eventually want to go looking for it, but it isn't compulsory to get into the game and enjoy yourself. You just have to let go of pre-conceptions... it's what I did, and as a result I had some of the finest gaming spells this side of the millenium.

The best advice I would give is go with the flow, dont read any spoilers and dont attempt to look at walkthroughs etc.

The beauty of this game is the unique experience each user gets when playing it.

Oh and a wee tip, always rest in a dungeon if you can to get health back, even for just 1 hour and it will restore everything and is cheaper than using pots

I seriously dont know anything about the game, I ordered it based on quick glances in this huge thread - is it basically a adult-orientated version of Zelda..? Meh, Ill find out this evening Im sure anyways

It's basically a fantasy GTA-meets-Shenmue, with dollops of Fable cottage cheese that's tasty as opposed to putrifyingly off-putting.

I only found out yesterday you can hold down the Left bumper and drag bodies about the place. I found my younger brother annilating a town on easy mode before arranging all the bodies in adult themed scenario's in their underware \o/.

Needless to say i was shocked....

I think you need to tell your brother to stop watching Visitor Q.

I'm pretty sure that a lot of the problems I've been having now with the game in terms of loading/audio skipping/jumping/not playing are related to disc scratches from the 360. The new disc I placed in earlier this afternoon has ultimately meant better loading both outdoor, indoor and active viewpoint to menu transition.

Doesn't exactly bode well though - how long before the 360 drive decides to scratch the game again? It's not exactly as though I had the other one out of the unit after I put it in, using it as a coaster or as a frisbee.

I guess in the dark brotherhood quests this would come handy, i always twat the mark and leave him in the street rather than dragging him away
It's a testiment to amount the game drags me in, but I've yet to find anyone to just murder in cold blood to get into the dark brotherhood! I keep thinking about it, then I come across a tramp I feel sorry for and I can't do it...ending up giving him a gold coin.

Probably gonna do it last now

                  :P

I'm a right bastard then. I kill people when I enter their houses to steal their wares, though I enjoy setting them up for the fall more when choice-related quests (of which there are many) allow it.

Currently enjoying one of the most breathtaking views I've ever seen in a game (stood on one of the highest peaks in the Western part of the map, looking down at an entire forest of trees. The sense of scale is frightening.

I wish the 360 had a print screen option, or the ability to save pictures in games and then carry them over to the PC via USB. It's not the same with a digital camera.

And... oh! The game's just informed me that Chanel has my painting ready at Castle Chorrol.

damn the anticipation is killing me, knowing that everyone is milking this game is killing me. Will be getting a 360 just for oblivion in a couple of weeks, question though; is a hard drive esential to play oblivion? what are the advantages of playing oblivion via the premium 360? does the game still work fine on a core system? thanks for any replies

Advantages are much quicker load times and smoother transitions due to the fact the game can cache further assets compared to Core 360.

Detailed mountain peaks rolling off into shadows, and far off sunrises illuminating them ftw.

Really do need to clamber on down from this hill and get over to Chorral to see how good my portrait is. May post a digital camera shot of my character in painting form.

Doesn't really belong here, but oblivion has reached the 1.7 million mark. http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/10671/...-Record-Sales/

Morrowind was one of those games where after two or three years on release, there were still units being sold, so hopefully Oblivion can be a long distance runner. Who knows, when we get to 2008, we may be looking at the 6-8 million mark.

1.7 million is certainly a very respectable start for a game of this type.

I felt exactly the same way, but came across a good quest in Bruma that allowed me to get into the Brotherhood, and finish it with the reward.

I don't have a core system, but I did test it without my hard drive connected a few days back, and it seemed fine. Load times were more frequent, but still pretty short.

                                Bastards! :P

I've got the painting but I can't see it until I've got a house to display it in (not even a menu). Okay, I've currently got 10,000 gold. What's the cheapest house I can buy without making myself bankrupt? Anyone?
