On a more serious note... we're not talking Disgaea, FF Tactics or Vagrant Story in terms of initial inaccessibility. The only thing likely to overwhelm you is the amount of choice you're offered, and the scale it takes place inside of. If you approach the game in a non-completist frame of mind where you don't mentally tick every box of everything you want to do (trust me, you'll lose track of the threads you involve yourself in for the opening few hours), then you'll enjoy it a lot more.
You don't need to read the manual and you don't need to have a healthy background/knowledge of Western RPGs to enjoy the experience... all you need is an open mind and a willingness to be immersed.
There's a huge amount of depth if you eventually want to go looking for it, but it isn't compulsory to get into the game and enjoy yourself. You just have to let go of pre-conceptions... it's what I did, and as a result I had some of the finest gaming spells this side of the millenium.
