No sooner do I sort out the audio skipping issue by picking up a new disc and it crashes on me. Again.

It's no exaggeration to say I can usually expect a game crushing bug to come up every 3 or 4 hours considering what's routinely been happening the last 60, and at the very least along with that, expect smaller glitches along the way.

SA - the only comparatively sized sanbox/non-linear game I can compare it too was nowhere near this bad.

It's why Oblivion isn't a ten. I said all this a week and a half ago. Old ground, I'll stop - just disappointing to see how close it would be to complete brilliance had the game been given extra development time to stabilise the engine (if possible).

      ha ha love it

See im worried about this, if you become high up in a few guilds do things start to overlap and you need to choose who to stick with?

Been playing the X360 version? I was suffering the same as you with the crashes and so on, but after awhile I got fed up and started playing other games (Like halo and graw) and when I returned, the crashes had stopped (for now).

My Brother is a big rpg fan. He doesn't have a good enough PC to run the game properly, so he's thinking of buying a 360 with the game.

Is the 360 as good as the PC version? Anything important I should know regarding difference between the two versions?

If the 360 version is pretty much the same, he won't have to buy a new PC!

Do you think the problems could be attributed to your 360's?

Reason I say this is because before my first 360 eventually conked out, I would get random crashes, glitchy sound on Ridge Racer 6 and it went on for a while before the machine gave up the ghost, now though, since acquiring a replacement machine, I've not had Oblivion crash once on me yet. The only problems I've encountered are the glitchy quest bugs, like for example, the NPC not saying the correct thing when one has acquired all the necessary ingredients to cure vampirism for example.

i have only had about 5 crashes so far which considering the amount of hours i have put in thats not to bad.

My only problems now are the frame rate which sometimes runs quite smoothly but at other times drops by half (in the same areas as when it was running smoothly previously). Also its a bit worrying when you speak to someone and there voice changes. The stealth could do with a bit of tweaking to i really hate it when your discovered and they home in you and cannot really hide again.

Did do one of the brother hood quests

where your a guest at a party all i did was sneak up to everyone back stab them it was done in less then 5 min

Yeh, I think it may be something like that. I'm about 65 hours into this game and I've had a few crashes at one point but I restarted and done the cache thing on the hard drive and it worked perfect after that. No other problems.

When SA came out, my mates PS2 was a wreck, he didnt take care of it and it just sucked, was so slow to load games etc and we all know how much SA pushed the PS2 so his would crash and freeze and stutter all the time, due to his machine.

Worth checking out I think Concept since you seem to have crash after crash after crash.

for the people experiencing crashes and long loading times, try resetting the cache (if you have a hdd). to do this hold down A when the system starts up. It should of cleared once the game gets to the titles. I did this last night and now the game is actually playable! No more crashes, the loading is much quicker and less frame rate drops :P yay!!

Yeah Concept, why don`t you just clear your cache? Someone should start a petition to force Concept to CLEAR HIS CACHE.
Just get that damn cache cleared ok?

Why does it need tweaking? If you're discovered of course you're not going to be able to hide again, they don't want you in their house do they?

As for crashes, the only problems I've had are the occasional lock up when loading that required a system reset. Had this a couple of times in over 100 hours, so it definitely hasn't been much of an issue for me.

Is the 360 version as good as the PC version?

                        Cheers!

Probably played about 25-30 hours in total and one lock-up.

Interesting this whole thing about cache clearing - why isn't it mentioned in the manual or anything if it's as necessary as it sounds ?

Awww, you missed out on some comedy gold!

I started by wacking one of them, then coercing the remaining guests, one by one, to do eachother in

The unbreakable lockpick quest that Gerry Helmet mentioned doesn't seem to be working for me. I arrive at the destination but the location indicators just vanish. This game really needed another couple of month of testing which is a shame as when it works, it's great.

I've repeatedly stated I've cleaned the cache.

Another bug I encountered was falling through the floor near the imperial city into nothingness. The reason I didn't mention it was because after 15 or so seconds I was placed right back on the ground. Many of the bugs and engine flaws in Oblivion aren't all too dissimilar from SotC, except they happen far more (this either highlight's SotC's technical brilliance or Bethesda's lack of it on the hardware that's offered with the 360). Other games on the system that I've played offline have been fine.

The flaws really sour the experience of playing the game. I think I'd rather walk away, 110 hours in, so I can recount playing the game favourably months from now instead of scratching my head and thinking "ah, that's the amazing open-ended game that had it's potential screwed up by complete instability".

Yes, I'm aware other people haven't experienced the problems I've had in the spans that have happened. On with the positivity.

I'll probably be back in a few hours proclaiming it's greatness again if I can prepare myself to re-enter the game with a hush-hush attitude and clenched teeth for any problems I encounter.
