See, when others at uni were getting dressed up for "Real roleplaying", I was down the bar. Maybe that's the root of my Oblivion crapness? I used to jibe the long haired D&D fanboys, but how wrong I was.

And now it is them, who look down and laugh at me spending 4 hours playing a game, without realising that I hadn't put any clothes on below the waist. Not understanding the obvious concept of "Level upping" and rejocing at the quake 3 inspired oblivion levels that offer endless supplies of walking around lava dead ends.

Only kidding, but yeah, I know I'm in the minority! (In fact I don't think anyone else has had a problem) which goes back to the outcast thing.

I wanted so much to love this game.

I'll give it another try one day no doubt.

I have a few quick questions for the veterans out there:

      1. Torches, where the hell can you buy them eh? I'm all out, and it's actually preventing me from dungeon trawling.
You'll probably find them in crates around the city; I think you might be able to just take them, as they have no value. (might want to save just incase, or sneak when taking them)

Once of the effects they have is "Night Eye" but I think that's their second one, so you won't get it from just eating them. (you only seem to get the first effect if you eat raw ingredients)

You can use them to make night eye potions though.

Well, you don't have to walk around with your weapon drawn all the time, and you can get spells to create magical light around you. (or see in the dark)

        This is unbearable!

Talking on here and over the emails with friends makes me want to go home and play it NOW!

EDIT: Thanks for the info, I'll look into buying some spells for my warrior. I need a better one than the 'Heal light wounds' spell that you start with...

There is a torch in every crate barral in the dungeons which I've been into, as well as on most bandits which you encounter, usually two or three. I've got a lifetime supply now lol !

Yeah that is it, just have your shield, weapon and torch equiped, and the torch will automatically be put away when you draw your sword and vice versa !

            I hear you mate.

Is it "normal" to actually plan what you intend to do in-game this evening?

I know the feeling. I haven't been hooked like this on a game for absolutely ages.

As for torches... they last aggggggggggges and are never hard to find (searching barrels and crates usually does the job). It's lockpicks which are my problem.

Can anyone help me on them? I find the picking random at times and usually waste about three to four lockpicks on the Hard/Very Hard ones.

Only place I find lockpicks in any numbers are the dungeons with lots of bandits in. They always have 2 or 3 lockpicks on each. You can also buy them for 5 gold each from the contact at the theives guild. Although that would work out pricey for me, with the amount I get through. Gettings easier now that my security skill is climbing though !

I mentioned before, its easier to do it with your eyes shut and completely use feel, timing and sound to unlock them. If your looking at the image then it messes with your head. I still suck at it, but I'm getting better, I'm level 40 security now and every time I need to do a Very Hard lock, I just save it before and keep loading til I get it, otherwise I'd just waste like 20 lockpicks first attempt!

Going to play it now, got until 6pm when I need to go out.. I wonder what I'll get up to this time.

This is what I've ended up doing, it does seem to be hit and miss with it.

I bloody hope there is a spell that does the locks for you at some point in the game.

There is, and if you pick Alteration as a major skill, you should start with one that can open easy locks.

I'm pretty good with locks now (as in real me, i'm a warrior and my security skill is pap), I can do hard locks with two or three picks if i'm patient. It took me ages to understand what they meant in the instruction book, just to wait until the tumblers are stuck at the very top. I was initially trying to do it when they passed the shear point...

I'm reading this thread and planning my evenings play This game has really grabbed me by the ballsack!

Hmmm, finish current mission, check out that boat, do a bit of looting and buy the haunted house and finally get some ectoplasm! Cannae wait!

Freaking locks. I've had only 1 pick for ages now. I've opened soo much stuff with it though. The old "save just before" trick works wonders.

Street Fighter 2 what? It could be a record for me in that I spend ?0 in the month of April on videogames.

There is a guy who hangs around outside Imperial City near the stables called Shady Sam who sells them if you don't want to join the Thieves Guild.
