Nope, the OutRun Class cars are specific to 2006, they're faster than the arcade cars, by quite a bit. Don't mix these up with the 'Tuned' cars though (which are only available in OutRunSP mode). Basically if it's got a body kit or fancy paint job, it's 2006 specific.
Oh. I actually rarely ever play single player and pretty much only play sp mode. I like that all the cars have the same specs and that it's exactly like the arcade version.

I was thinking about the different difficulties earlier and if changing it makes the frequency of cars different, won't that affect your score since you'll have more or less cars to pass up depending on the difficulty?

Of course, but... you have to weigh it up with the increased chance of crashing and reduced time you get for later stages.

I guess in the end it kind of evens out, but then it did on the Arcade. You'd need to take that up with AM2

Just thought I'd mention for those who wondered about this, I've got 64-bit Vista on my machine, and Outrun 2006 works a dream!

In fact, revisiting this has reminded me just how great this game is.
The fact that this is already on budget ranges makes me cry, the best racer since Sega Rally and no-one bothered?! Ingrates.

£9.99 for the PC version, or £12.98 for the PS2 one in Asda ffs. No excuse tbh!

Put this through are ps3 lastnight, jesus how good does this look and play still today. One of the best games to grace any system over the last three years in my book.

I can't say I've noticed it. Just bear in mind that although I own a Driving Force Pro I have hardly ever used it - I'm not a big racing game fan. I just got myself over-hyped in the run up to the release of GT4, bought an expensive wheel and then put it in the cupboard for a year or so

Could the dead-zone thing be controllable in the Windows driver rather than the game? ISTR there were quite a few options in the drivers from Logitech, though this time around I'm not sure I even installed them, let alone set anything up.

I can make faster times with the Dualshock via USB converter, but its a lot more fun with the wheel. It feels better in long corners, but it's tougher to do a drift that changes direction. I've just got to get used to it I guess.

I was also surprised that although there is no force feedback, the Driving Force Pro seems to use it's motor to create variable resistance, so that it does get tougher to turn the wheel the further you are from the centre. I wasn't expecting it and it does add to the experience.

Hi SOL, in my search for the definitive OutRun SP experience I'd like to ask you about the Japanese PS2 version. Has it had the same kind of tidying up treatment as the Japanese Xbox version of the original? I heard that the shuttle animation has been put back in but have there been any other improvements (either content of technical)?

Basically, which of the three versions (UK PS2/JPN PS2/UK XBox) would you say is the most faithful?

              Thanks for your time.

A bit of good news for PC players with HDA dts soundcards (i have the xplosive 7.1 version) the latest drivers get rid of the blue screen / reboot problem.

Sorry for the wait, I've been away for the weekend...

For the Japanese version, we did add the Shuttle and Volcano end animations, also tweak and tidy up a few bits on the courses and spent some more time optimising the game to iron out a few spots where we dropped some frames.

It also has Force Feedback support for the DFP wheel, and a number of other tweaks.

In terms of which is closest to the arcade, it's hard to say. Visually the most accurate is probably the PC or Xbox version, as we didnt have to compress the textures.

Content wise, it's probably the Japanese PS2 version, it does have the end animations, the arcade opening sequence etc. It doesn't have online play though.

Bear in mind though that the Japanese PS2 version is Japanese text only, there is no option to switch to English. That might play part of your decision to get it.

I dunno, my favourite has been the Xbox personally, but then I don't own a PS2

SOL in regards to the Xbox version of OR 2006 being backwards compatible on the 360, is there any way of knowing when this will be or is it totally up to MS?

Sorry if you get this question a lot.

I do get asked that a lot

Sadly there's nothing we can do to speed up the game getting added to the Xbox360 backwards compatibility.

Basically Microsoft need to make the emulator compatible with the game, so it's basically in their hands. With this being out of our hands, I can't even give you an educated gues. They have stated that they intend to make all the games compatible, so I assume it will happen someday, just I don't know when!

I bought the PSP version off the boards last week.

I am running my PSP at 333mhz, so I dunno if the follow holds true at 222, but I just want to say how impressed I am with the quality of the port for a handheld machine!

You've included everything! The game feels just right, and is such a brilliant "Quick 10 minute bash" game, that is ideal for me when work has me hopping on and off planes.

I am espcially impressed at the scale of the view distance in places, how the hell did you manage that! AWESOME work.

So, thanks for porting a game with such dedication and passion, that you managed to get it so close to the arcade on a PSP. Outrun is a real fans games, and I feel well looked after.

I also found out that Sumo has it's routes from Gremlin Graphics? Is that right? Kudos, I loved Monty Mole!

OK Cheers. I think you've answered a couple of my questions over at gamefaqs in the past when the game first came out so cheers for that too.

Feel free to ask me a random question if you like because I bet you get sick answering other peoples all the time.

                            No worries :P

If only we were allowed to run the PSP at 333Mhz officially

Sumo does have it's roots in Gremlin Graphics, basically a lot of us worked for Gremlin, and then Infogrames when they took over. We've got some converts from other firms mind!

Selix, if I come up with any random questions, I'll be sure to let you know...

SOL why there is no english language option as you could easily put that in. Do Sega have a specfication guide telling you what you can do and can't do.
