I get that one just about every bloody time in time trial mode, I want the F-14 god damn it, only ever seem to get it on flagman races, it'll be a while before I see the UFOs as well I think.

        I love this game.
People complain about the graphics overall looking "grittier" than OutRun 2 - but after havinga good look over OutRun 2 SP, SP is grittier as well ^_^.

I actually like the gritty look, takes me back to the days of SEga RAlly 95' where everything looked super raw and rough - when they smoothed things out for Sega RAlly 2, it didn't feel as "fast" or "awesome".

The Road itself is a good bit more detailed than the road from OutRun 2 - it looks like the textures for the road have been done better?

        Slipstreaming is top tier ;p

        All on Xbox.

        Gotta love Sega-Europe and Sumo.
S0L, tell all your friends at Sumo that NTSC-UK loves them, and if possible would like a marrige.*

        * I, as an individual, am in no way related to NTSC-UK and deny responsiblity for the consequences of your actions if you chose to act upon my advice.

I have the PSP and have rented the XBOX also, but i use a Neoya x2vga connection for my XBOX and the graphics are stunning IMO

The game does have a more gritty look than the original XB OR2. One of my mates played it, and said it it has a ' Saturn ' look; I think he was joking!

I then did a softmod on my machine and enabled 480P, and the game looks a good deal better. The gritty road looks smoother, and everything is slightly nicer.

The game looks fantastic overall though. I like the extravagant design, and the colour and details are wonderous, but with some good anti-aliasing it would have been much easier on the eye.

A 360 version at 720P with some decent AA, would be a dream come true!

I'm getting really frustrated with the online mode on both PSP & PS2, there's never anybody on. I get bored sitting in lobbies by myself and when there is a session available all I'm treated to is a load of people coming in and dropping out again ><

Had one game today but the guy had set it to use the over-powered tuned cars, plus put it on ghost mode (what's the point, why not just do time trials?) and never changed the settings once, I got fed up of having to use cars I'm not familiar with. That's my excuse for getting thrashed.

Well I'm playing a lot of online but I think it's just broken. My PSP crashes regularly in online requiring a complete restart. People have a real hard time maintaining connections. Often the next stage doesn't load in a race meaning you are stuck at an invisible wall while everyone else finishes or the opposite - you finish on your own while everyone else is stuck at the invisible wall. Lag is often hideous and really affects gameplay - the PSP often has a hard time even knowing my position in a race and I have crashed several times by being knocked by an invisible car popping on screen in front of me and then vanishing again.

It's all a bit pox and very disappointing.

I was pretty upset when our arcade took SP away.

This **** is blowing my mind.

                  That's about it.

The AA was removed from SP intentionally (And therefore not present in 2006) because the developers WANTED the game to look gritty. Sumo tried implementing hardware AA in 2006 but it didn't have a good framerate with it so they took it back out again.

Just get the PC version if you want it to look better than Or2SP.

480P60 shouldn't make a difference to the jaggies considering that if you're playing in 50Hz Interlaced TV RGB 15.7Khz the image is actually Higher Resolution than 480P60.

Only difference is it being interlaced and running at 50fps. Although it still looks good if you have a CRT (Although if you have one of those god awful Plasma contraptions then there is no hope for you, sorry).

Hi g34r~guy. Good post. You seem to know what you're talking about. I'm curious though....how do you know Sega removed AA and deliberately wanted SP to look gritty? Did Makoto Osaki quote such a comment? If so, did he give a reason behind the change?

Can certainly understand what they were going for there, and it certainly has it's own charms. Suppose it's only a big deal to those of us on LCD screens, as they do look quite rough compared to something like F-Zero GX. That said, it's what they were going for as you say.

I'm curious as to where this idea is coming from - can you link us to something that says the developer wanted the game to look 'gritty'?

                          Comment

Aside from the Jaggies, the game does have a gritty look. The road in particular looks very gritty, and the scenary can look very blocky at times ( Floral Village for example! )

I'm guessing the reason the arcade and XB versions lack AA is simply down to lack of processing power. I don't think it's a ram issue.

I'm playing the game on a 32" CRT Widescreen. In Prog-Scan, the game looks slightly less gritty and clearer.

If the game had some decent AA, it would look better, but the game still looks excellent, with all the detail, colour and imagination!

I love the style of the game, it's fantastic!

I think the PS2 version looks ever so slightly better in prog scan than the Xbox version (PAL version does 480p too). It maintains that gritty look but has a slightly softer look overall. All the TVs display a really nice image overall, especially the plasma.

Oh yeah, I still don't like it

I've just had a quick trawl through and not seen any questions, but if I've missed any, point em out
