But whether it's a 'pile of pap' is clearly subjective. Despite your protestations that this is an awful game (and personally I don't disagree with you), I absolutely guarantee that some souls will love the new Sonic and would be heart broken if it had not seen a 360 release.

Platform owners should never decide what goes on their platform based on perceived quality. They can set acceptable standards for decency, parental controls, robustness and so forth, but the consumer should always be left to decide quality make their choice with their wallet.

I hated Sonic Adventure and imo this isn't that far removed. I believe (and I'm happy to be challenged here) that time has been very unkind to any of the 3D sonic games and the general positive attitude towards SA1 would be virtually non-existant if the game were released today.

So if you still love SA1, you might well enjoy this.

        There is hope.
IMO Sonic and the Secret Rings/Wii looks to this Sega kid to be the most authentic and pure Sonic experience since Sonic & Knuckles.

        -Sonic only playable character (!)
        -Linear speed based levels
-So-far-so-good low set camera, close to Sonic which works
        -Fun and hopefully intuitive controls

The only problem is I don have a Wii, nor the funds/inclination to buy one for just one game. I'm am however going to rope my brother into buying Sonic for it.
I would not be totally surprised if it returns Sonic close to his former glories in terms of game quality.

        Here is a good vid-

Thanks for the impressions Andromeda & Kotatsu.

Just to make clear I really did not like Sonic Adventure 2 due to the random nature of the levels coupled with the fact that you were just thrown around everywhere. And due to the bad impressions of every other 3D Sonic I havent played any of the others but had really high hopes for this one.

Sonic the Hedgehog was one of the first ever games I played as a kid and I adored all the old 2D Sonics but Sonic Adventure is probally my favourite ever Sonic title. The standout sections like the run down the side of the building in Speed Highway, the stone snake puzzle and the Windy Valley race above the clouds were just inspired. Mixed with the advenure sections and beautiful graphics it just made the whole game feel alive and so diffrent than anything before it's launch on the Dreamcast.

Standing atop the floating island with the tribal music and the wind howling was so atmospheric.

GamePlay seem to be the only place doing the Limited Edition tin version, so I've had to order with them. Unfortunately they don't have the option to send the game in a box anymore =/

Thats just how I think mate , Sonic Adv was just the same for me, and yes that music almost made you think you were the Incas (made my hairs on my back stand on end) .

Thats why I'm so sure you'll like this, its not has good but its the best Sonic 3D title made since then. And the music in this is some of the best to come out of SEGA since the likes of RES and Orta , in fact in very Panzer-ish in parts .

Looks like a PS2 or DC game I don't know.
It looks good in that vid, definitely better than the DC but it still makes me think that if you made the slightest mistake thanks to a sudden camera angle change then the gameplay would go horribly wrong in a nasty frustrating way.

The controls are ridiculously sensative, so it's incredibly easy in the quick sections to nudge Sonic off course and he'll drop to his death.

                  This happens a LOT.

Oh the glitching, loading screens will do peoples nuts in , but stick with it and the game just picks up and gets better and better . Shame that the start of the game will put most of for life Trying to move tails is harder than playing Ninja Gaiden

Sonic Team Bug Test Dept need shooting , NCL would release a game in such an unfinished state (there's even problem with some of the sound code_) and this is what Sonic needs to compared too .
Shame because when this game gets good, it?s a riot and I love it, but when its bad is about as bad as it gets.

Only die hard Sonic Adv fans should look at this, shame thought as couple of the levels are some of the best Sonic levels I've ever played

Right after playing the snowboard part. I can understand to some of the comments about DC graphics , The Snowboard part look worse than Cliffhanger onthe Sega CD , with about 1 frame of animation (like for all the snowboard parts) and buggy and glitching beyond belief but then when Sonic on foot , the snow level looks lovely, with stunning music .

Thats the trouble with this game its all over the place.
Must own up if this wasn't SEGA and Sonic I wouldn't give it the time of day . When the game bad its bad and worse than Sonic Heroes and worse than Shadow , then you get to levels like
Crisis Zone and its a bitof a knock out (rubbish controls aside) . Its looks nice with a great sense of speed and scale (the level is massive) and running through skyscrapers is a riot , its also so fast it makes one eye's bleed (if you can bare the loading times inbetween). Then you get levels like the Snowboard part was are sh8t and like some 16 year old just starting @ Sonic Team made those levels .

There's so much promise here and most of that goes to waste through simple things like not even getting the controls right . Funny thing is too the Sliver levels are by far some of the best inthe game .

Oh shound add , one of the water levels is great though (when you can run on the sides of these huge water falls )

I agree with the Eurogamer review (which gave it 2/10), Why Can't they get rid of all the ****ty side kicks and make the focus of the game on sonic again?

I love Sonic games but this is just terrible The loading times , the completely illogical pathways through the levels , the glitches and slowdown .

When chasing the egg carrier you run into invisible barriers , loose your rings and just seem to float waving your limbs around before having to restart the level

I'm really lifted with what Andromeda has been praising in Sonic but it still sounds quite bad.

I really feel SEGA should take some time out and take a look at what they want to do with the Sonic games. Get it right and you can create a beautifully tropical world with insanely fast courses, inspiring adventure sections mixed with a really tight control system.

The more you mix in new characters, features and tricky courses then you dilute what Sonic was brillant for. Fast moving platform courses mixed with simple controls and beautiful levels.

                            Ahh.

The thing is about the new characters is they don't get inthe way, in this one much like Sonic Adv . You only play them if you want too in a seprate Adv to that of Sonic (apart from tails ) , and the Sliver levels are quite good as it happens .

The basics of a good Sonic Adv game are here , nice huge levels built around Sonic and his speed, and Crisis Zone and the Lava level just after it are good Sonic levels . All letdown by rubbish utter sh8t controls and bug testing .

Mind you I speak as someone that got some enjoyment out of Turok Evo (as I was such a fan of the series ) In many ways Sonic Team are becoming just as bad as Acclaim Thank the maker for AM#2 and AV is all I can say .
