How would that work though? Have the boss set up so that when you first encounter it on Normal you just have to hit it anywhere with any weapon until its health bar has gone down, avoiding the occasional attack? Then during Hard/Extreme you have to find its weak spot and take advantage to progress? Could work I suppose if you didn't force the player to have to go through on Normal before unlocking Hard/Extreme.

I like the initial "OMG this thing is unbeatable" feeling when a boss appears. The harder the bastard the more enjoyable the victory, especially when you make them your bitch!

Had great fun with that massive

    spider tank boss

at the end of mission 8 last night. After skating around him while he tried to blow me up for ages (trying to suss out his weak spot) I ran out of Energy and was ejected from the Uber-Mech. On foot I ran/rolled/jumped to the corner of the room where there's an indestructible pillar you can hide behind - what followed was an insane cat and mouse chase around the pillar with me unloading every time he transformed and rolling like **** whenever he started his blue lightening attacks. SO CHEAP but was great killing it with a machine gun and a few nades

If you're playing Lost Planet expecting narrative and deep story then you're going to be seriously let down. This isn't a Hideo Kojima game.

If I want story I'll play an RPG, which in relation require no skill at all to progress.

Also, got the lvl7 boss down to about 5% health, took out ALL three remaining droids, then fanatically decided to go for the mech rockets for the big finish which turned into a big mistake as during the picking up animation he decided to fly over and land on my head.

Thank the lord for that, if it was a Kojima game we'd be waiting an hour before we got to do anything.

Need to play this again tonight, did a lot of multiplayer on firday but haven't played single in a while. Need to slay the big akrid boss in the circular cave. Quick question, where am I meant to kill the moth for the Moth Hunter goal? Also is there a reward for doing it on hard or is it just on extreme?

I'm up to Mission 9 on my 2nd play through (on normal) and the last boss I faced

            (the gigantic tank mech)

is the only one that's posed a threat. I needed about 5 or 6 attempts to beat him because I was using the wrong tactics.

Of course it's much easier with prior knowledge but even on my original play I felt the difficulty was fine. The Bosses were tough, yes, but not what I'd consider to be ridiculously hard. It's not like you get sent back to the start to do everything again if you die. It's just you vs the Boss untill you work out how to defeat it. Gears of War works in exactly the same way... You just keep repeating a section untill you hear that little guitar riff and make the next checkpoint. Where was all the "?t's impossible!" talk for that game?

Lost Planet wouldn't be half as good if the Bosses were easily defeated IMO. They're the high points since, for the most part, moving through the levels themselves is pretty straightforward, and dare I say, a bit on the easy/boring side? Compared to GoW it is anyway.

Briareos, you need to kill the Moth on level 5 for the achievement. Any skill level.

No hard recognition. Moth on Mission 5 cliff face (use laser gun, should only take 2/3 shots).

Indeed. Although one good thing about MGS are the rewards for people wanting to complete on harder difficulties.

They can prove pointless though, such as the invincibility on Goldeneye - if you're good enough to unlock that cheat then invincibility should be useless to you anyway.

Most proper games are much harsher than Lost Planet. The Gradius series for example, if you're going for a high 1-credit score and die after a solid 45mins performance you might as well start again as all your weapons are gone when you're in the deep end.

A part of me is glad this lvl7 boss is nails. If he wasn't then this would all be over in 20hrs on both hard + extreme and that would be a ****ing joke tbh.

Thanks guys! I actually misphrased the second part of my question. I meant to ask is there an acheivement for game completion on normal hard and extreme or just normal and extreme? Just wondering if I ever finish normal I can skip to extreme y'see.

Also Dave, last time i checked you didn't have the worm hunter, is this right?

There's no achievement for finishing the game on Normal, just the M11 one. On Extreme, you get one though.

On Mission 10 and looking forward to replaying this through on Hard already. The missions themselves are pretty basic but the boss fights are superb. LOVED the Mission 8 and 9 boss battles and am looking forward to whatever Capcom have got lined up for the finale.

Really not finding anything too difficult as most bosses have fell on the first attempt. On Hard and Extreme it will be totally different though.

Well, finished it: it does improve towards the end with some of the larger battles and th bosses only get better. Still don't rate it particularly highly. The combat is still loose with the exception of boss fights but it is still very entertaining stuff, with some of the sections proper Capcom.

Just skip to extreme. Hard was easy IMO and only took me nine hours. I've spent more time on this lvl7 boss alone.

Remind me which one is the Level 7 boss again Fallows?

GOW was really easy though, even on Insane - the only challenge there was the savage, near impossible difficulty spike when fighting Insane RAAM in SP.

I'm really surprised to see here of all places people playing LP on easy mode or complaining it's too difficult. A big part of gaming is about giving you a challenge, a test of your skill and reflexes - they're not passive experiences like movies are.

Games have really become too easy over the past 5-10 years. You people need to go and buy Viewtiful Joe and Ikaruga, put some hairs on your chest!

Couldn't agree more. Made it upto level 8 over the weekend and the two bosses that gave me the most grief, the Worm and Green Eye have been by far the most enjoyable.

For the first few attempts the Worm was driving me up the wall, I didn't even realise that you could just bound past it and the insta deaths from bad dodge timing were infuriating. But once I nailed the pattern, the next half hour spent killing it was one of best gaming moments on the 360 so far, especially with the almost "Dune" like music playing in the background. I enjoyed it so much I think killed the second one that appeared for the hell of it and took a good swipe at the third before moving on. You end up with far more ammo and T-Eng working through the fields and fighting the thing for the subsequent boss battle than I imagine you would have just legging it. I had near enough 9999 T-eng and 20 rockets by the time I reached the level 4 boss, I was damn near invulnerable

Green eye was infuriating because those Ice shards absolutely hammered me, if I got caught by one of them the VS suit just doesn't move fast enough to avoid the rest.

In fact I'm disappointed that by the sounds of it the moth only takes 2/3 shots, I was hoping I'd have to fight hard for that achievement.

I think possibly the problem with LP's bosses is that instead of calling upon skills or abilities you've honed it kind of just drops you in it with a couple of the bosses. Up until the encounter with the worm, there had been no insta deaths and the first few attempts can be spent simply nailing the right time to get out the way.

And again, when you fight Green Eye, your first thought is "Fecking Yes! A super VS" but your actual experience in the suit is only 30 secs at the start of the game. What I actually realised whilst trying to fight like I was playing ZOE, was that the suit was actually as sluggish as the rest. When you see Wayne zoom about in the cutscene after its like he's using a different VS.

But I wouldn't have it any other way I think the real answer is some of us are just sadists

Its really punishing innit, took me a good few bashings before I remembered I was playing a Capcom game so should take my cue to start skating from the noise he makes.

With the jumping and flying maybe but the skating is class in that suit. I got so into charging down the side of green eye, slipping past as he tried to bum bash me and circle attacking him as he rained down those ice shards I couldn't get my head around the end bit when he charges for ages. Might play though some of these Uber-Mech sections on Easy just to be constantly skating.
