Played another game of this this afternoon, was a slayer match that I won in the end. Usually I'm not that good at Halo but I've been quite impressive if I dont say so myself since playin the Beta. And I mainly use the Assault Rifle I think or whatever the one you start with is called, the needler and the spikey gun thingy duel wielded. And alot of melee attacks too.

      you nub HaHa.

it's one of the reasons we laughed at kids in halo2 who were sat under your base in capture the flag contesting it.

"hey i'm at the back of their base under the boxes contesting the flag"
to which we'd get 3-4 of our team say "cheers mate, be there in just a second to kill you".

      knowledge is power.

I found that too, it's archaic to have to press a button to talk to your team mates in my opinion.

Makes perfect sense, in my eyes, to press a button to activate team chat (though admittedly I've yet to play Halo 3 so don't know how well it works in practice) otherwise there wouldn't be proximity chat - something I've always regarded as a pretty cool feature. I suppose Bunjie could implement a toggle switch but, again, I like the idea of having to press a button to activate your radio - it's more realistic.

Played a lot of Gears earlier, and I have to say the majority, say 70%, of those who'd played Halo 3 thought it rather average and not a huge improvement over Halo 2, neither aesthetically or in terms of gameplay. I believe the growing weight of negativity surrounding it could prove healthy in the long run however as it lowers people's ridiculously high expectations to a level the final game might just meet.

I think judging by the beta the multiplayer in H3 is looking rather good overall but its a given that its never going to re-write the book since H2. I guess Bungie have an almost impossible task to improve on what was already a high benchmark AND please everyone at the same time.

At the end of the day I am expecting it to be what it appears to be already, a HD version based on Halo2's gameplay but with tweaks in the right places to make it more akin to Halo1 (which is generally accepted as having better overall balance) but at the same time adding more features around that main feature-set to flesh out the finished product.

As well as that I am sure Bungie will be taking the feedback and criticism from this beta and using it pro-actively to make the final code as good as it possibly can be... to those that hated Halo2 for whatever reason (I have one pet peeve with it - being no search function in custom matches) there is still plenty of time for them to add more options to the final game in order to allow players to customise multiple options to make it play the way they prefer.

That said, its still always going to be Halo so if you hated it for that reason before its not going to change now.

...and all this before we've seen the story campaign, something which I am hoping is really going to complete the series. As a finale it should be the product everyone was hoping for in that regard but I guess we'll really find out in september.

My only final question now is... online co-op?

I think everyone's hoping for and indeed expecting an online co-op mode, but providing the single player-campaign's as good as the original I won't mind too much if it's not included. Gotta admit it would be pretty cool driving a warthog through the main game with another player on the turret though.

Hope they have some sort of option to keep voice on in the final build.
                HaHa you NooB

That why you were complaining about chat ? You've got it SO wrong. Next time tell 'em to do so without pushing anything - you may get a surprise !

Haven't a single problem playing any game so far and I have played with folk from all over in Rumble Pit and Team Skirmish. Got my first experience of the SPARTAN laser and I must say unless they change it before finalrelease it appears I am going to be very good with it, hehe. Feels like a super refined version of the fuel rod and that aint a bad thing at all.

The stat tracking on Bungie.net is really good - being able to view who you were playing against for several matches, and the stats for those matches is a neat feature.

Are Bungie resetting stats when the full retail version hits?

Had my first few games last night on this and it's not too shabby! Started on a few slayer matches to get the feel, most of my kills seemed to be from finishing off with a melee which is satifying. Also death from the grave is a sweet touch, and the stick grenades are a boon for an innacurate chap such as mesself. Then hooked up with Soi and Boris for some team action. The genesis of E45 'only for external use' was witnessed!

This isn't helped by the fact that the icons above people are the opposite of their team colour - sorry, but that's way too confusing for me, and meant I didn't shoot people when I should have :/
Yeah man, I always have to keep looking down at my legs to make sure what side I'm on! (._.')

Top games last night though fellas. Too bad things are limited to an 8-in-a-bed sesh. The maps seem really easy to pick up.

It's horrible taking someone else you've been chatting to for the past 10mins into another party to find you're @9, and then having to drop them. Gayness.
