I hate racing games usually but this one has me hooked
Same here I was mid-field in the last lap and came back to grab 1st pretty much on the line to claim the achievement.

in all the reviews of this everybody goes on about how you stick to the cars in front a lot, is it just me or is this simply overcoming by dabbing the brakes to free youself ?

i reckon that all the mags are underscroing this by 1-2 marks out of 10.

Yeah, I'm finding hitting the brakes will free you, I guess the reviewers are playing it like Burnout though, and then wondering why it doesn't feel right.

Have to say now I've got used to it, this game is feeling very very natural. The handling is certainly solid, as I can predict how my car is going to take a corner now. Just takes a few hours to get used to it all.

I got the Frank Malcov achievement randomly myself, thing it was while being incredibly aggressive though. But thats the whole reason I love this game, you're encouraged to be a complete sh*t to everyone else.

I think its even less of an issue than that... if you continue to ram opponents directly from the rear you're asking for trouble. Only took me a few races to figure out not making direct contact that way was the way to go, its far better to pull up alongside them and nudge them police style to make them to a 180 as it doesnt slow you down much at all. If you do get "stuck" though then yeh slow down and pull to one side to get away.

The only thing I agree with in most reviews is some objects/debris do knock you about more than you expect... mainly cones, lampposts etc... but once you get used to that you also compensate enough for it to be less of a problem.

Overall I think they've got the balance of racing and destruction as good as it could possibly be with some much mayhem going on. Generally races open out after the first lap and you can really start racing seriously.

I’m loving the game (still!), just working my way through Carnage mode now for some achievement points!
I think the above issue is an annoying issue as the game REWARDS you in how much you bash and destroy over cars so just saying that instead you should ride up against other cars and nudge them, isn’t really a solution.

However, that bug doesn’t spoil the amount of fun im having. I’m finally getting the hang of the stunts and working my way through the flatout mode.

              It's not a bug

I've done carnage mode but not gold - I've got one tournament left in flatoutmode street then the finals. It's turning into a bit of a grind tbh but the online play is where it's at and that is superb

The ‘car sticking to other cars backsides’ is a bug, if that’s the one you mean.

I know what you mean about the grind for SP and yeah, online play is great fun!

its not a bug, its physics, solid objects can't pass through each other so if a faster moving objects rams up behind a slower one it doesn't take einstein to work out what happens.

I finally realised why I was struggling so much in the really tight bomb runs in carnage mode. Unlike Burnout you don't actually go above your max speed when using nitro, it just causes you to accelarate. The Car's momentum keeps it at a high speed.

Yeh its a different mechanic, just use it to accelerate back to top speed and conserve the rest...

Agreed and a much better explanation than I gave

As I said you gain nothing from rear-ending an opponent apart from some nitro boost but you get that anyway if you hit them from the side without slowing yourself down in the process.

Yep - I've found using boost to get through the gears quickly is the way to go - In the carnage races where your boost refills whilst driving at speed it's best to just tap boost as you corner to kind of push you out the corner in a straight(ish) line.

And yes Klis, that is what I meant and as merf has pointed out it is not a bug. Both fishtailing (by "nudging" the other cars rear-side so it spins out) and basically boosting right into the side of them on corners are the best ways of causing much damage I find.

We'll agree to disagree with this one . While it may be like that in real life, IMO flatout isnt based around real life physics (well some things ive seen wouldnt be able to happen anyway). Besides, it really does sometimes ruin the gameplay (in a game your told to bash your opponents, your not allowed to do it a certain way? yeah right! you do it anyway possible!)

Anyway, trying to step away from any kind of flame war , has anyone managed to complete all Derby Golds in an ungraded Chili? its HARD!

If you're going for the habanero achievement I should make you aware it's an UNupgraded chili you use
