    Was in

Otacon's lab in Act 4 last night

and when I took a picture of the Policenauts poster I noticed there's a ghostly image of Kojima's head just above and to the right of it (but only when viewed through the camera lens)! Gave me a right shock at first!

To analyse the gameplay in act 2 down to "sneak, sneak, open area, encounter" and so on would be a very negative attitude. If you break down any game whether it be GTA, Halo, Space Invaders, Pacman, Devil May Cry or Final Fantasy you will come down to something basic which will sound very "boring" and unappealing.
True on the breakdown, though the analysis is not the negative attitude. It's the negative response to the game that brings the analysis. The analysis helps illustrate exactly why I didn't get 'into' the game, as you say. Or why I thought previous MGS games, or indeed most other games, were better.

Like FullSpec and the Tom Clancy games, his mates don't analyse those games because they just got into them. That doesn't mean FullSpec didn't enjoy them because he went in with a 'negative attitude'. Also doesn't mean that each and every one of his criticisms aren't valid (I haven't played a Clancy game since the DC, I don't know).

And, again as FullSpecWarrior says, minds are not going to be changed. It's not about that. It's expressions of opinion, discussion and, yes, analysis - without that threads would be all either 'this rocks' or 'this sucks'. The analysis, for me, is what makes many of these threads worth reading. It can also help find the common grounds.

For example, if we were into a discussion of MGS mythology and how it came together in MGS4, I'd be right with you on the positives. Same with the music. Or (especially - actually I should have mentioned them in my post) the fantastic references and nods to the previous games. Discussion.

I soooooo hope they release an art book for this one (and still hold out hope for a MGS3 art book). The ones for the first two games are gorgeous and I'd love to see all the sketches and promo artwork. Maybe they'll bundle the two games into one book as there doesn't seem to be as much drawn art floating about compared to MGS1 or even 2.

Fair enough, guess we just see the game in a different light. Although calling the game very average looking would be the understatement of the year I think, it is stunning. Your criticisms about act 1 are also rather baffling to me as I went though the entire act without getting an alert and never had any problems with the controls but as we have both said different people, different experiences.

Sigh, think I'll just download a save now as I've just buggered up the no kill run, hah. its no big deal, I don't see how I could have known to switch to the

non lethal shotgun rounds, to deal with the powered suits etc on the way out of act 2 on the tank

knowing me I've probably killed a few more anyway somewhere, bah

                    Yep.

Oh, and on the references to old games, I think my favourite bit in the whole game was when

Snake woke up from his MGS1 dream. That was a fantastic moment. Otocan telling me to change disc at the exact place it happened in the first game was a close second.

Also if you find them all, you get a Secret Weapon. Which is from another Kojima game.

Im about to start Act 2 again. Can you clear this for me. In order to get the no kill run you can't destroy the Gekkos? :/

You can destroy the geckos are they are unmanned, but not the powered suits as they have a guy inside, you need to equip something like a shotgun with non lethal rounds (which you can buy) to put them away for a bit, or try ignoring them, bah I actually got 2 kills, I dunno how. oh well. no big deal

                              You'll see them when

you're escaping on drebins' tank near the end of act 2, theres only a couple, but I still managed to hit one with the railgun, I need to sort out my savegame management as I've done it all the time in the past, instead of having many saves I'm just cautious with a couple, and then I cock it up and its all over unless I want to go back to act 1, which I don't feel like doing

sigh, it doesn't matter, I'll just play it stealthy and try to get as few kills as possible now, then I'll download a completed savefile and mess around with that or something. it was going sooo well too. bah !

The only section im not looking forward to is a particular boss on act 4. I can see that being a total nightmare. Luckily i stuck it on liquid easy.

I enjoyed my act 1 playthrough earlier though. Takes me way back to the way i use to play it in MGS1.
