The jumping has nothing to do with it on Irreversible. toythatkills has the right idea about how it works.

It's called 'Irreversible' because if you rewind time at all, the green vertical block will beat the horizontal one out and it'll be stuck - it's 'irreversible', in other words. It doesn't matter if you dodge enemies, kill them, jump up and down; as long as you don't rewind, the horizontal one will get all the way out before the vertical can get there. It's timed so that if you reverse time at all, it won't work and you'll have to leave and re-enter that level.
But I swear I've been in that level, done no reversing and the green one still comes up first. I'd never seen the horizontal platform beat the green one out till I tried to make it happen on purpose. Surely I couldn't have been reversing every single time I played the level?

You must of done something. NekoFever is right, the horizontal platform is affected by time while the green platform isnt. The horizontal platform should beat the green platform as long as you don't rewind time

I just went in and stood there and you're right! I must be way more trigger happy with the x button than I thought. If only I'd noticed that myself that puzzle would have been a lot more straightforward.
Just got 3 more pieces in world 6 now, the middle one in Elevator Action (I thought I'd sussed it last night but still seem just as stuck), the 2nd one in Phase (which nobody else anywhere seems to have a problem with) and another one I can't remember.

I was the same way until I worked that bit out. It's just instinctive to wind it back when you die or something by that point, so you have to think about not doing it. I think I got to a safe height on that ladder and just sat there until the platform had moved out.
I just solved World 4. It's amazing how so many of the sticking points on here are actually pretty easy if you leave it for a while and come back with a fresh mind. The puzzles are really well designed in that respect.
If anyone's interested I found the music from the soundtrack on iTunes and made an iMix for it here. It's all iTunes Plus and is only £6.32 for the lot.Last edited by NekoFever; 10-08-2008, 15:11.

Finished it. Some of the puzzles are just mind blowing - no wonder the main guy is called Jonathan Blow. I wish I had the creativity to develop such devilish works.
And the ending, oh man. Best ending in a game for ages. When I realised that
the twist was that Tim is some kind of stalker
and I read back through some of the text, it gave me the shivers.

I've finished it myself, nice to know that at least one of the puzzles really was that fiddily and I wasn't doing it wrong.
As for the extra stuff well I know where one hidden screen is but it would bloody have to be at one of the few puzzles I ended up hating so not in a huge hurry to go back there.
I've loved it though, I think seeing the ending discussed in so many other places under spoilers kind of made it a little underwhelming for me though.

that was quite a clever twist that one, it put a slightly chilling slant on the whole story, and was a nice counterpoint to the usual fantasy save-the-princess story.

Well, I know the ending now. Ta.
Anyway, just got on to world 5...still haven't clicked with that new mechanic. But there's so much satisfaction in finishing the paintings. 'Hunt' in World 4 was a real WTF moment, but it was so satisfying to finally nail it.Last edited by crocky-chocky; 11-08-2008, 15:42.
