I don't have assist on, but I never adjusted the difficulty, so whatever is default I'm on.

Default is Easy so that's what the AI is. At least you have the assists off anyway.

any body have an idea why my pics from photo mode look crap.

i am still stuck in the dark ages on sd here so perhaps i wont get super crisp hi-res pics, however it is widescreen, but my pics seem to be all squished to a 4:3 ratio.

Maybe the PC monitor you're using is 4:3?

EDIT: actually, that shouldn't have an effect on the picture size.

no, looking at them on the ps3 dash there are borders down the sides. i have a ton of afrika pics on there too which look fine.

Do you have a widescreen TV? As the game takes pictures at whatever your TV is outputting. Mine is 720p, where as if you have a 1080p TV the pictures will be that too.
