The controls are in no way worse than 4 IMO. They feel better to me in fact although the GameCube (bless it) never had the greatest controller in the world so that might be down to using a DS3 pad to play it.

I reckon the Gamecube controller is one of the superior controllers of all time, better than the PS3/PS2 Dualshock and 360 controller IMO.
The thing with RE4 is that Mikami designed the controls with the Gamecube controller in mind and for that reason it felt really natural. The translation to other controllers hasn't helped its playability at all.

Each to their own! The cube controller did always feel comfy I guess but other than that I didn't like it's non-symmetrical layout.

Why is symmetry important for a controller? How often are you looking it while you're playing a game?

Both my hands are the same shape. Roughly. I don't have to be looking at the controller to enjoy symmetry. And the buttons would have been great if my thumb shrunk on its way to the small buttons. Or my left thumb shrunk on the way to the d-pad.

Thing about the GC controller for me was simply that it was absolutely fantastic and comfortable for some games, particularly Nintendo's first party games which were designed around it, and total pants for others. Great controller. I loved it. Sometimes.

              What Dogg said.

Same reason I don't like the stick placement on the 360 pad. Each thumb is on the sticks at a different angle so the type of movement needed on each stick is different. I'm sure MS designed it that way just to differentiate it from the Playstation pad. I digress though...

                yeah, I agree with that.

Nice to hear some constructive criticism about the controls without some idiot stirring things up for no reason.

Personally I found Resi' 5's controls easy to use on default and it didn't hamper my experience of playing the demo. I found the game just as fun as its predecessor. Sure, the ability to move whilst aiming would make combat easier, but its not a hindrance to the fun I get out of it.

I think the problem with RE5 is that Shinji Mikami's not involved, so with no new ideas, Capcom have just got a team making a shinier version of RE4
I don't think there was much new in the likes of Dino Crisis II & III, DMC III, Code Veronica , other than changes in Graphics , most of the controls weren't changed at all, and I'm sure Mikami worked on all those games.
Maybe its just NCL fans bitching because its not on their system any more.

Of course, DMCIII was exactly like II apart from graphics, same for DCIII.

Nah, maybe it's just Res Evil fans bitching because, from what we've seen so far, the series has turned into ****?

I think there is a deeper issue at hand here. I agree Res evil 5 is lacking some what but I also think the Jap offering as a whole this generation is lacking compared to western games this gen!

Maybe people are just realising through Res Evil 5? thats another thread though I guess.

I'd have a 360 pad over a PS3 one any day. The analog sticks are far superior, the only way the ps3s is better is the dpad, which is rarely used on next gen games apart from weapons, which doesn't exactly need pinpoint precision.

I was looking into getting a 360 controller modded to work on a ps3...seems far too expensive to do though :/

I can't believe people are still talking about the controls...

What else is there to talk about?

How about some indepth playtime of the online component. Everytime i visit the forum, its an update about Resident Evil 5s controls in the first play thread. I want something a little different to read.
