Well it seems Veteran is only good for co-op. I tried it by playing on my own but Sheva got being overrun pretty bad.

The game doesn't really click with me, I am halfway but I never had the feeling that it met RE4's brilliance yet. And I don't think its going to. I mean, I found it awesome to fight El Lago in RE4, but this moth boss was just lame. Also, the settings have nothing on RE4's. I miss the creativity in the levels, I miss the puzzles and the atmosphere. Its a straight on TPS without a real soul. Co-op both hurt and heal the game. Its great for replayability with friends but it hurts the single player experience.

RE4 is much, MUCH better imo. That said, RE5 is still a good action game, but as an RE it fails. This is more like another, much better Outbreak.

My feelings are the exact opposite, I think this is as good as RE4 maybe even slightly better.

I have got up to Chapter 2-2 and have really enjoyed it, superb stuff. It is not really "horror" anymore but at times the game does manage to build up a tense atmosphere and there are definitely more than a few moments where panic has set in for me! The game has a much more cinematic feel to it and I think it works really well. It kinda feels like you're in a blockbuster action/thriller movie

Controls wise, I haven't had any problems so far as I have popped off quite a few "infected" heads and generally just have aim/shot without any issues. The one slight negative so far would be that sometimes Sheva doesn't do exactly what you would like her to do but it never has got to the point where I don't want here with me. I say this because she has healed me quite a few times after I have taken a few hits, she has given me ammo when I have needed it and she has been very good at taking out the infected on her own too, which is always a good thing.

So far so good for me, really enjoying it and I hope it gets better as the game progresses. Oh yeah and the game looks rather lush too

Shiva is really bugging the crap out of me.

If she isn't running two steps ahead just to turn and look at me in the way that a dog does when it catches sight of itself in a mirror for the first time, she's barging me out the way or getting herself killed. It's like Dominic Santiago's sister or something!

I haven't tried it yet but, and even more so than the demo, this feels like a game that needs to be played in co-op to get the best out of it. Take away the backwards partner AI and this could be quite stellar.

I'm already digging all the detail that's gone in to the visuals and once you get used to the control (I think playing the demo helped me readjust to the Resi way of things) then this seems well worth playing.

Only up to 1-3 at the moment so too early to start hooting and hollering about what it's like compared to RE4, but it's already provided me with one night worth of entertainment in single play, so that's got to count for something.

edit: oh and holy crap at the opening sequence where it *major spoiler*

              showed Jill Valentines grave

!!!!1111111!!!!! If nothing else I'll be playing through to see how they explain that one (I've been media free for a while so you all might know something I don't, but it caught me by surprise at least).

No way is this as good as RE4.

Yes there is more variety in the levels with the vechoile and on rails sections but the actual core gameplay isn't as good becuase it feel like its a game made for a more fluid control scheme, where as RE4 played well with the controls. If it wasnt for the fact that Sheva can usualy revive you about 6 times before you die the game would be ridiculously difficult.

Also how come your A.I. team mate can revive you by simply punching you in the gutt but to revive them you have to use healing item(but only if you have some)? This is frustrating becuase they arent that great at avoiding attacks.

Overall its not a bad game, but I'm on chapter 3 now and unless it improves dramticaly over the second half then its one of the lesser games in the series IMO.

Erm... I'm having major problems with the game here. The console doesn't like the disc. Struggled to read the disc then when I played it there were frequent loading problems eventually resulting in crashes. Took it out, put in LBP to check and that played fine so it isn't my PS3.

Disc is unmarked. Anyone else having problems with the PS3 version?

It has horrible tearing at 1080p you need to switch it to 720 to get rid of it. Though 1080i might work, havent tried it.

My 360 copy has crashed while loading a couple of times too so that problem might not be version specific.

The game does have super fast load times though, guess you cant have everything...

Been enjoying what I've played of this so far and it is fun to play but it's just missing that special something that makes RE4 so good. It's not just nostalgia either as I finished RE4 again for the umpteenth time recently. Just little things like the Merchant in RE4 really added to the game, having a crappy menu between chapters is just gash and as a game it just feels more substantial than RE5 has so far, I also detest the way you can't actually move items around in your inventory unless you are in a break between chapters. Salazar in 4 is an awesome main bad guy too, he was a real creepy bastard who actually felt menacing. I do like Sheva though and as a character is someone I hope appears in other RE games.

I think the single player (well coop) is something that I'll play once or twice but never touch again. Only a third of the way through though so it could turn utterly mental later on. Not a bad game by any means and it's fun but I certainly wouldn't say it was as good as RE4 by a longshot so far, I'll reserve final judgement until I've finished the damn thing!

Just loving this game , the in-game graphics are eye popping, never before as slime seemed so real , and this game should win awards for the cut sense engine and action , because one could swear its's real .

Amazing I feel like I'm taking part in a Hollywood blockbuster , and the Art Direction is quite brilliant , much like the moody music . I love the Rob Bottin like effects , on the Dog's and how they split open .

Brilliant game , I really don't get the hate , not as Good as RE Code Veronica , but a bloody top RE game none the less

I suspect the 2.6 update wrecked my PS3, it's not reading any discs consistantly now. Is there no way to force a re-install of the update without a format? Not even PCs have this crap when installing games now, why do consoles ¬¬

                            *edit*

yep, reading up on this it's happened to loads of people (2.6 comes with killzone 2 too). I'm mildly vexed. Seems like a format doesn't always fix it either.
