Theres the usual GAF explodage over this but here's some comparison footage:

And the following was posted by BlimBlim (Gamersyde guy) on GAF:

Ok since people have been more or less accusing me of using the PS3 review copy to put the PS3 version of AC in a bad light, I went and bought a retail copy. So now I can compare directly.
First of all, as far as I can tell the framerate is identical between the review and retail copies.
Now the bad part: The PS3 version of AC is quite noticeably inferior to the 360. First of all the tearing is much more present, and the framerate drops quite a bit more. Also to my surprise the NPC voices, at least for the guards/passer by are at what seems to be a lower sample rate. They definitely don't sound as good as the voices during the cutscenes and I certainly don't remember being such a difference in the 360 version. The pop-in also seemed a bit worse, but then it's quite visible in both versions anyway.
One good point though, the smoke/fog effect is much better in the PS3 version. It looks volumetric instead of being a transparent texture on a polygon or something like that.
Whatever happens the PS3 version is still very playable, but given the choice go for the 360 one. There is no doubt what so ever that it's better.
    Note: The boldage isn't mine.

With respect to combat it is all about patience and timing, like a game of chess, you wait for the enemy/enemies to make a move and you strike back at the opportune moment. I applaud the developers for trying something a little different than just press L1/LT to lock and hammer the X/A button, the combat requires a more considered approach.
You said it right there - in games like GTA and Crackdown the dialogue gets repetitive after a while, with this it gets repetitive after the first time you hear it! It's like Ubisoft couldn't careless for the script.

And I don't understand why people keep comparing this to the likes of GTA - imo they are two totally different games - (Just like you were saying when someone compared this to Mario Galaxy Ezee ). People saying that this and GTA are both as repetitive need to go play GTA again and see. Last time I checked in GTA you didn't have to keep going back and forth to the same people to get your weapons upgraded and your mission details, which lead on to the exact same mission types - find this person, take out his guards, take out him. And the lack of variety in the combat doesn't really help much either.

Oh well, rant over. Horses for courses I guess.

Would be nice if it was like collossous, it made it feel as if the horse had it's own independent mind, reacting to what your running into or off of. Hopefully not a push of the analogue stick.

Been playing for a few hours now (PS3), not gotten very far as I'm free-running mainly.

            Very early impressions.

            + points:

Simply sublime control system. So intuitive. Free-running around the starter town is just a thing of wonder. At no point have the controls left me feeling restricted or stuck in anyway.

            Stunning environments, truly breath-taking.

A good enough story (not even really bothered by the secret squirrel plot twist) and good acting.

            - points:

Intermitant tearing, seems to come and go. The PS3 framerates are consistantly ok. Haven't noticed any dips but it is not as smooth as it could be. Doesn't affect the gameplay in anyway, but it is noticable.

People around you gasping and making comments everytime you run, climb on a wall or anything else for that matter except walking. Got very old very quickly.

            Pretty poor audio.

Do the flags unlock anything in game or are they just for 360 achievement purposes?

Both myself and EvilBoris have already answered it. It isn't like SotC.

IMO, the horse riding is every bit as good as SOTC... apart from not being able to stand on your horses back and fire your bow, it is great fun and you get a real sense of speed when you fire the horses NOS kit up

Fighting on horse back takes a bit of getting use to, but all the animations for horse riding are great...

just wish there was a section where you were getting chased by other people on horses

... can anyone confirm if this happens later on or not as I imagine it being really cool??

Cheers. The tearing sounds annoying, it's one of the few technical aspects of games that really winds me up.

The Animation really is incredible in this, doing things that I've only seen in tech demos.
I've learned a new move that allows me to grab onto ledges when I hold be, so I can do a big jump if I'm trying to escape and hopefully catch the side of a building or something. I had a moment where I jumped off a roof towards the ground I held the grab button as I plummeted towards the ground, just as a last resort, Altair reached out 1 arm and as he fell past a pole this hand grabbed it and he swung around the underside and ended up facing the opposite direct, the momentum of the swing meant I could jump straight off onto another . It was proper cool and you'd not of guessed that the key animations in that sequence were caused by clever technology.

The guards also animate mid ragdoll, so they will lie on the floor in a crumpled heap but are still clutching parts of their bodies and moving.
During fights/free running Altair facial expression changes , as do the guards.

Some really clever next gen things there that I've not seen many times (if at all) in a game

The aspect of the free-roaming and missions is what is being compared to GTA, not the whole game. Also cos it is a game which constantly recieves rave reviews even when its formula has now gotten extremely stale now but that is just my opinion and a discussion for a totally different topic.

In realtion to the bolded quote, you are forgetting the title of the game Assassin's Creed, the title pretty much gives away what you are going to be doing for most of the game. It would be like saying Gun lacks variety cos all you're doing is shooting, when the main idea of the game is to shoot with a (you guessed it) Gun. The way you put it you do make it sound boring and repetitive, which again highlights my point of this game depends on the player. I could describe it the missions as - investigate your target, roam the city for information, scale the rooftops to elimate guards and take the target out in any way you please. Also you're forgetting a pretty good story too, well at least in my opinion anyway. Personally I love the game, it is something that stands out amongst the myriad of shooters and copy cat games out at the moment.

And every copy purchased keeps Jade Raymond in a job. Without her, half of the Internet news blogs would have nothing to report on, so for the sake of the internet, I'm going to buy the game.

I have mine today, just done the training and walked around the first level. Looks beautiful and the controls take no time at all to get used to!
