Ah, cool. I didn't realise. I was under the impression it was still 256K+.

Are the downloads resumable, and is it worth getting just for the downloads. Perhaps in Uni with Ethernet access it'll be a good investment of my time, but is it worth bothering on a 2.8K connection speed?

I've had more laughs with this thread, and the bickering between ATI and Nvidia than I have in a long time.

A lot of these 'digs' are incredibly amusing, I'm really impressed with the creativity of some people.

'Nvidia sucks, tbh' - was about as creative as I could get!

Going gold isn't a big deal apparently.

Apart from the fact that it's a little hard to actually make the discs until you have, so with only 4 days to dupe, pack and distribute them globally... it is kind of important.

In one sense you're right though, since it won't be until the 8th patch that it will be stable so they might as well just give us what they've got now.

So anyone played through Half Life again in anticipation ?

I had a quick go through my saved games from key playing points just to freshen up

Has anyone noticed that Niahlinth says quite a few different things - I hadn't noticed them the first time around as I was too busy trying to beat him ( and my speakers at the time where **** )

He says stuff like :-

"alone, not you alone"
"comes another"
"decieve you, he will dicieve you"
"die, you all die, you all die"
"done, what have you done?"
"the last, you are the last, you are"
"you are man, he is not man, for you he waits, for you"
"now die, now die, now"
"slaves, we are their slaves, we are"

"the truth, you can never know the truth"

"win, you cannot win"

Got those by messing around with the pak file. Some are in the game, some aren't, but they pretty interesting and cryptic

Oh and does anyone else think the voice of the G-man is the most insideous sounding thing they've ever heared ? Couldn't be more suited to the character

Of course, but within the development cycle, it is not the milestone that people on this and other boards have put it across as.

While it is clearly a great indication of when the game will be out, it is not condidered that important within the development team, which is why you rarely hear when games go gold.

Although, I'm under the impression that the date that the game goes gold will be disclosed with HL2 to quell the fears of us crazed fanboys.

TBH I'm up to thinking now that if there was a delay they might have said and wouldn't have kept us hanging on

But there's still that nagging doubt

I know you can pick up dead bodies with the manipulator and toss them about. Valve have already indicated that the weapon is upgradable as you progress and you can eventually lift bigger and bigger things ( maybe even vehicles )

While I think launching a Strider across the city is possibly going a bit too far, I'm sure by the end of the game you'll be able to pick people up and throw them about like a frisbee in a Nike advert
