I agree with you but can you imagine the feeling of having a HL2 box sitting on your desk a couple of days before release, and you can't play it!

Valve did say they were looking at other options of paying via Steam but I haven't heard anything since - this was a day or so after the pre-purchasing started and a few people were moaning about this on the Steam forums.Comment

My interest in Half Life 2 suddenly peaked today. I guess the prospect of it actually coming out is finally dawning on me.

No one is stopping you from picking up the normal retail release though, are they? To be honest, the extras aren't anything like what exists in the Halo 2 limited edition package, if you exclude Half-Life: Source. There certainly isn't any 'making of' material in the collector's edition.
My enthusiasm was almost flat-lined a week and a half ago when a complete forum fanboy ****wit decided to go blabbering yet more potential spoilers (or what he thought they were) without any warning.
But San Andreas and Halo 2 have helped to take the pressure off Half-Life 2. The more it gets built up, the greater the risk for disappointment. That's what destroyed MGS 2 for me (the last videogame sequel I anticipated heavily).
Half-Life 2 will be something special, but I've decided to take it on its own terms, rather than my projected image of them. And come on Chad... Are you telling me that in six or seven days from now, when we're truly on the cusp of playing greatness (or actually involved doing so), that you'll be idly standing by on the sidelines?
