I don't know if anyone else did, but I e-mailed Gameplay.co.uk and asked about pre-orders. The response I got was:

    ---

    "Hi,

Thanks for your e-mail. We are currently awaiting confirmation from the publisher as to which versions will be released in the UK. We will put the information on the website as soon as we know and inform all of our customers with pre-orders,

    Many Thanks,

    Gameplay Customer Services"

    ---

So, no real news, just make sure to check thier site every day or so

We'll I've got mine preordered from there so they will just email me. The game should go gold tomorow or very soon after too if they really think they can make the 30th release date.

I've got mine pre-ordered from there too I'll be first to know -

What do you mean by 'go gold'?

        Comment

When a game goes gold, it's considered complete. So we wont see the release of Half Life 2 unless the game goes gold first and it's been expected to go gold on the 15th of this month (now) any later and they are just asking for a delay really.

Mine was pre-ordered from gameplay too - but they sent me an email last week saying it was just the SP version

Argh, how can that happen? I've not had an e-mail from them telling me which version I have, and they say that they are still trying to confirm with the publisher.

Can you post a copy of the e-mail you got, please? I'm starting to get concerned.

I am putting my chips on the Steam thing happening, how many people do you think are gonna download the game early than buy it late in a shop?

                  'Hi

Thanks for your email. When the publishers of Half Life 2 announce release
dates for the other versions of the game, we will be setting them up to
order from our website. In the meantime I will ensure that our website is
updated to make clear that the advertised version is only 1 Player. When we
publish details on the website it is usually material supplied directly by
the publisher. Thank you for your concern, and I hope you will order one of
the other version when they are available.

                  Thanks,

                  Mason

                    ****!

Well I'm gonna have to change my pre-order then... unless like he said in my response, they're currently not certain, so they are playing conservatively... I'll wait until say 5 days before release, just incase something changes.

Bloody good job I kept an extra ?20 incase something should go wrong.

Well, atleast now I have ?46 for the MP version... I just KNOW they're gonna screw me over... well I suppose ?26 was an extremely good price, even just for single player...

Won't all these different versions alnd things make patching incredibly difficult and confusing when we get to version 2.1.1.6 or summit?

                    FUUUUUUUCK!

                    Thanks for letting me know.

Tell me how clear it is that this game is Single Player from this link to thier product specification: Half-Life 2 at Gameplay.co.uk

Urgh, and I'm concerned that if I don't pre-order early then they may not have enough stock - I'm a very concerned person you know

Does anyone know somewhere that is selling the MP version (FOR SURE) that will deliver on day of release for under ?46 inc. P & P?

Argh, This is rather infuriating. Nothing is at all making sense.

Someone on the HL2 board sent Play.com this e-mail:

                            ---

"There are now three versions being released.

                            A SINGLEPLAYER ONLY VERSION
                            A SINGLEPLAYER AND MULTIPLAYER VERSION
                            AND A COLLECTORS EDITION DVD

Which am I going to get now i've preordered? I'm considering canceling my
pre-order, you see, I want multiplayer too!

Please could you garentee i'm going to recieve a singleplayer and
                            multiplayer version.

                            Thankyou

                            Michael Drayson"

                            ---

The response from Play.com is this:

                            ---

                            "Hi there

                            Thank you for your email.

The version of Half-life 2 that you have ordered is the single player version. If you would like to order a different version you are free to cancel the order and re-order the version that you would like.

                            Kind regards

                            Play"

Well, that seems fair enough, but the only version of the game that I can see at Play.com is this. That copy of the game clearly indicates at the bottom:

Does that not indicate that it is multi-player if it is network compatible?

Sorry, no, that is just the maximum I have to spend on the game. It is in no way an indication of how much the game will cost in the end.
