Ah, quit yer bellyaching, you've all waited this long to sample HL2 goodness, you should be happy that Valve have been honest enough to admit it wasn't ready and needed fine-tuning - besides, there are other things to keep you occupied in the waiting time, games are still being released for those funny little things called 'consoles'.

nah Valve have been ****ty about the whole thing. They only revealed the delay like 4-5 days before it was supposed to be installed on our machines. If they need to do 2-3 months work on the game now in order to get it releasable then they knew full well that the game wouldn't reach store shelves way before we were told there was a delay. Meh, I can't be bothered talking about HL2 knowing it's months away

What games are we all gonna be playing instead then? I'm gonna get Halo and import myself a bit of Final Fantasy XI 8)

To make up the time I sold my PAL GC and have a switched JP/USA GC on the way witha copy of F-Zero GX. I also have an NTSC-U copy of SW:KOTOR on the way! - hopefully!

                Ah well...

Apparently the Alcatraz thing went ahead yesterday

                  Rumour alert :-

By all accounts the game was finished two weeks ago but hasn't been sent for production yet. It still being tweaked slightly but nothing major that would prevent its release.

Valve alledgedly stated that Steam was the hold up as they're further perfecting it and have had lots of teething problems. They put off traditional retail sales until Steam is ready also

dunno if you lot have read Taurine's other thread but the source code for hl2 was leaked, and valve have comfirmed that it is infact the real deal. They got hacked and **** like that. gutted!

I got the source myself and had a look, there are folders for CS and TF in there. Each contain alot of information such as what classes you can be and what weapons will be used. I won't look at the main HL2 stuff cause I don't wanna ruin that but you can't really spoil multiplayer. You've been warned! stay away from big HL2 community's if you don't want the game ruined.

I am SO tempted to get back into TF. Half-life's classic version came close to ruining my life (at least 6 hours a night for 2 years), doing it again would be blimin great.

I'd love to get back into my old clan too
Wonder if Dragz still posts here

Your trusted source for video game news, reviews and guides, since 1999.

Some complete git has screwed up Half-Life 2's development process. The delay is seemingly (most probably) down to the recent source code hack. Whoever did this, you are officially the world's biggest wanker. Well done.

An interesting post from the Halflife2.net forums -

Everything makes sense now. The release was going fine up until the middle of September, then Valve started to go a bit quiet. Then the delay is announced with a comment relating to “email problems.” And Valve go even quieter. Everyone who has seen a Valve guy recently for interviews etc. has commented that they all looked like ****e, and really stressed out. They could not announce that they had been hacked because they were probably hoping that he would try again, and that they could catch him.

If you look at the source code, (and we all have) you will see in the folder \gameui what looks to me like the source for the Steam client. What this means is that if somebody is running the build from that source, he is pretty much running an open source web server, with open ports, with people who want to hack it, (as opposed to the likes of eMule and Bittorrent which is supported by hacker types because as the saying goes “you don’t **** on your own doorstep”) that is able to download, install and execute code. Anyone running this could expect to be hacked so fast and hard they’d think Blaster was the best app ever. This is why Steam and files have been updated 6 times since then.

If HL2 had come out as expected it would have contained some of this compromised code, and what’s more some of us would have been giving it our credit card details!

How the hell could Valve release HL2 after the source code was stolen?

Now they need to re-write the Steam network. Then they have to rebuild all the games the run on it, which obviously includes HL2, and only then can they release. It is no wonder they can only say “a holiday release.”

The one to blame for HL2’s delay, isn’t Valve, isn’t Steam, isn’t nVidia or ATi (who was my bet.), and it isn’t Vivendi. It is the bellend who hacked Valve and stole the source code 2 weeks before launch.

The leaking of the source code is undoubtedly uncool, but how common is it for developers to keep source code (especially those of highly anticipated games) on computers hooked up to the Internet?
