:blows dust of thread:
Well its been a while, but could things be starting to move again ?
Originally posted by EurogamerValve engineer Rick Ellis revealed that the SDK "will be released soon", which was quickly confirmed by Valve's head PR Doug Lombardi, who told GameSpot "We will be releasing v.1 of [the SDK] in the coming weeks."
However Ellis' email also mentioned a "legal hang-up that has now been resolved" was the cause of the SDK's extensive hold-up, prompting further speculation that physics gurus Havok may have sued Valve over the infamous source code leak - which included Havok physics code. However Lombardi was quick to deny this, telling GameSpot "The legal hang-up... was simply in reference to us finalising some paperwork involved with the distribution of the code in the SDK." Others are less convinced, but of the phantom lawsuit Lombardi said "to the best of our knowledge it is nothing more than a rumour."
Dare we dream ?

I'm still excited for this one - though the source code leak / delay debacle has dampened my enthusiasm a little. Still hopefully they've spent the last two or three months polishng and buffing it into a thing of tremendous beauty.
The first quarter (or lets be realistic, half) of this year is looking mad for PC shooters - Doom 3, Far Cry and (hopefully!) Half Life 2.
Eeeeeeeeeee

What do you guys think happened to the original release of Half-Life 2? Now things have calmed down a little and there are a lot more facts, do you think there was a genuine leak, a set up because they were going to miss release, it was just legal mumbo-jumbo? Any conspiracy theories?
I'm intreagued to know what you people think!

Software Development Kit, used for modders mainly.
Hmm I have no doubt in my mind that it was a real attack, but I feel that it was also Valve's fault to blame for a lack for security. Firstly they installed a custom remote installer through a hole in Outlook Express, and then basically gained access through the use of this remote administration program, and keyloggers.

I believe SDK stands for Software developers kit. It allows people to make mods and stuff for thier games. If you have Half-Life, you can download the SDK for it and make your own levels and mods now.
I made a Shotgun that fires 8 rounds per shot and has the plasma gun thing as a secondary function. That was years though. (and was 70% cut 'n' paste)
EDIT: Too slow

Originally posted by Planet Half-LifeThere's been a little bit of controversy in the community recently over release dates. Currently, there are no official release dates for Half-Life 2, the Half-Life 2 SDK, or Counter-Strike: Condition Zero.
Given the number of "official" release dates Valve has broken so far, doesn't this make sense? Why toss more release dates out there if they aren't sure they're going to hit them? Sure, it's frustrating that we have no idea when any of these things are going to be released, but it would be even more infuriating to be promised something on so-and-so date only for it to slip yet again. Right?
I agree with Planet HL anyway. I'd much prefer Bungie's: "It's done when it's done!"
Actually thinking about it, I don't know which I'm more excited about; Half-Life 2 or Halo 2!!!!!!
I'm getting myself all excited again now! - Sorry! *deep breath*

Well that backs up Valve's claim of the theft.
On another note a friend of mine received a mail this morning from gameplay and they now have it down as an official release date of 24/9/04. I'd treat that with a pinch of salt though as all other sellers still have a tbc for the relase date.
Oh well, time will tell...

having played the doom3 alpha and the hl2 leak, I have to say I'm actualy looking forward to doom3 a lot more, It just has a lot better atmosphere.
although judging this from pre-release code is obviously a very silly thing to do and I intend to re-evaluate these opinions on the full release of said games
