I'm preloading again at the moment. My Windows partition died on me the other day so I'm having to start all over again

The only trouble I had with Live was that my existing router wasn't compatible. Something about closed NAT....

I ended up buying a new router: it was quite straightforward to pick one as a bunch have big XBox Live Compatible stickers on and stuff.

Other than that its a doddle. I just plugged my XBox into the broadband, turned it on, filled in the registration instructions and job done.

Argh, my XB is chippied, I'll have to buy a new one... which I can't afford... oh well, back to square 10... 1 being where I am now, 10 being infinitely better from my perspective!

No problem at all. Like Ish said it really is that simple. I just got myself a decent router regardless of Live support and just plug it all in, switch on yr box and it'll, 9/10, auto-detect all yr settings for you, job done.

These lot are quite good I found and have all the info you may need:

Cheers for the information lads... With Outrun 2 out this week and Halo 2 just around the corner, I suppose I best get this Live situation sorted out sharpish.

Pre-load five is out by the way for Half-Life 2 (CS: Source maps)... And there are rumours that the Belgium PC Gameplay magazine has given the game 90% in their review.

Make of this what you will... Do I smell a big September 30th announcing lingering in the air?

Gamer's Depot had a screen grab apparently of this date posted on the official Half-Life 2 website, but now even that's been mysteriously taken down...

                Nov 23rd/Dec 1st!!!

That's really pissed me off (if true), for god's sake, that's another cpl of months basically. Bah I'm just in a bad mood this morning, have to switch off the hl2 radar for another few weeks again suppose. Then again we knew it was gonna be a while yet, most annoying...

Turns out someone faked a screen grab of the official site. It was a feint.

                      From www.gamespot.com
Once again, the press-release-adverse Gabe Newell has used hlfallout.net to reveal new details about Half-Life 2. In a posting to the site, Newell revealed that there will be no less than five different Half-Life 2 packages. Two will be the retail versions: a standard edition that will contain the game on six CDs, as well as its multiplayer version, Counter-Strike: Source. The standard edition will also have three different characters--hero Gordon Freeman, heroine Alyx, and the sinister G-man--on different versions of the box.

The second retail version, the Collector's Edition, will come with Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike: Source, and Half-Life 1: Source, a remake of the original game with Valve's new engine. The Collector's Edition will also be on a single DVD and be bundled with a Half-Life 2 T-shirt and a Prima strategy-guide sampler.

The other three Half-Life 2 packages will be available directly from Valve via its Steam download service. The "Bronze" package will include Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source. The "Silver" bundle will get purchasers Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Half-Life 1: Source, Day of Defeat: Source (another classic-game remake), and "Valve's back catalog currently available on Steam."

The "Gold" package offers even more features. It will get you Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Half-Life 1: Source, Day of Defeat: Source, Valve's back catalog on Steam, a complete Prima strategy guide, three different Half-Life 2 posters, a Half-Life 2 hat, a Half-Life 2 postcard, Half-Life 2 stickers, and a Half-Life 2 soundtrack CD. One out of every 5,000 "Gold"-package purchasers will also win a trip to Valve's studios.

However, with the release date of Half-Life 2 still in limbo, Valve is offering a big incentive with its Steam packages, which will go on sale next week. "Those who purchase via Steam will receive the final version of Counter-Strike: Source immediately," read Newell's posting. This means that while the single-player campaign of Half-Life 2 might not be available for months, the full multiplayer component (which has been available in beta form) will be sparking LAN battles next week.

UK PC Gamer score for Half-Life 2 is... 96%

And guess what only other game in their history to get that score was?

                              Precisely.

The poster of the score is being cagey about the review text. He doesn't have a scanner either, although he has taken print screens of the DVD the magazine came with and uploaded them. So it's legitimate by the looks of things.

A small snippet he did post from the review:

"This is the one unmissable game. It's time to get that cutting-edge PC system. Sell your grandmother, remortgage the cat, do whatever you have to do, just don't miss-out."
