How does this work? Do you backup to a DVDR?

In two minds whether to order this with Steam or from the shops tomorrow and this is the one deciding factor now...
When you right click over a game available to play in Steam, an option comes up to back the cache files to CD or DVD.

I haven't used it yet myself, but it's a recently installed feature on to the platform.

I only have 1MB and the transfer rates from Valve's servers were averaging at some insane speeds during the pre-loading.

Then there's the small fact that the code theft knocked back development of Source powered games. You can imagine the panic that rippled through licensees when they realised that Valve's crown jewels were ripped off.

Vampire Bloodlines now gets to launch right next to HL2.
I wouldn't want to be in that position.

It looks like I am not going to be playing this at all tomorrow

I'm working from 9->11:30pm, but it means that I'll be able to play the game for 36 hours on thurday and friday I decided that I'm not sure whether my gameplay copy will arrive in time, so instead of risking dissapointment tomorrow, I'm going all out on Friday.

            No sleep for me

Did you read what Spatial said a couple of pages ago? Come on...

Half-Life 2's launch is going to come once and once only. Work... Well work is there to stay (usually). Can't you say you've come down with that nasty cold which has been going around recently? You know the one I'm talking about right?

Watch out Nips. Spatial and Concepts are like a pair of devils sat on your shoulder.

                ...
                ...
                ...

But they're right. And you know it

Yep. If I wasn't off work ( legitimately ) I would be on the sick.

C'mon Nips, get a copy from work today and then go on the skive tommorow.

I thought about it, and I almost went for it. I could change my day off from Friday to tuesday if I went to this work thing from about 5-11:30, so I thought, if I have tomorrow off I'll be playing the game from 8:00am -> 5:00pm... but if I take Friday off, then I play from 6pm Thursday -> 8am saturday.

                    That's a lot of hours!

It's all about numbers... I've made my choice and I stand by it... and if my gameplay copy doesn't come through in the post tomorrow, then I'll get 0 extra hours to play it.

It's the right choice... I know it is.

If I was to call in sick they'd know... although the fact that I'm standing on the shop floor talking to you guys when I should be serving some of the 5 customers at the cash desk probably reflects how much they actually need me.

Anyway, when it arrived in the shop today I tore open the box and the cellophane, ran upstairs and proceeded to lick the DVD infront of my manager while he was giving performance reports to the rest of my colleagues... I think they know how much I want this game.

                      I know what I'm doing...

Precisely. The effect of the hack was felt more than on one (admittedly high-profile) game. I was half expecting around that time for Troika to perhaps sue Valve in light of the theft because their use of the technology had been just as potentially compromised. With the exception they were paying to use it.

The fact was there were motivation, development time, and legal concerns the attack probably impacted on. It wouldn't surprise me if it seriously hurt the focus and attention span of the team intially after it happened. Still...

Both games have come out of the other side at last. Kind of ironic it's on the same date too.

Trust me Nips: you've no chance. I thought I could resist the pressure and hold off till Christmas. I know now how very wrong I was. Give in to the inevitable. Yield to the logic of the situation.

I'm getting disturbing images of you in a clown suit Spatial with big chompy teeth.

Anyway, Nips, I'm sure whatever decision you make, you'll enjoy your time just as much with the game, whenever that may be.

Ish. So we have you on board then for the discussions-to-be ever so soon?
