Yeah, I can't help but think about Call of Duty over an over when playing Half Life 2 myself... I remember CoD being an incredibly intense experience that I'm not feeling as much with HL2.

I must play through it again and pick up the United Offensive expansion as see if it's my being all rose-tinted or not.

I've been messing with the Source SDK for a few days too and like you I'm trying to push the scripting as much as possible. I'm even thinking about making a mod but that's a whole other thread I'm sure

    EDIT:

And now I'm almost finished the game from the look of it... the Citadel is pretty amazing looking even if you are a bit of a spectator for a lot of it. The visual look is very creepy and very alien despite looking quite sterile.

I'm not sure I want it to end now!

      Just finished it.
Well done Valve, what a great game. I've enjoyed every minute of it, really liked the ending too.

Now I can read my raising the bar book finally!

Ack! I've got a friend at uni who rates Doom 3 above this....how do you deal with someone like that??

Why even bother trying to deal with him? Just let him think what ever he wants and don't respond to stupid comments. He'll soon shut up.

Maybe just let it go? Not everyone will have the same opinion on this game or on anything for that matter. If he prefers Doom3 good for him. Personally I only played the demo of it but it didn't do enough to warrant a purchase for me. HL2 on the other hand has been worth every penny, I've had zero problems with Steam and the only problem I've had with the game is some minor stuttering which IMO didn't take too much away from my game of the year for 2004.

I remember seeing a screenshot posted here with the gman on a rowing boat drifting away into the sunset. What was that all about, I never saw it while I was playing the game through?

Valve's PC shooter overcomes development obstacles to become one of the most successful games of 2004, selling 1.7 million copies in just one-and-a-half months.

Looks as though Half-Life 2 is in it for the long haul. Sales figures have been released, and I'm assuming these are just for the retail market and not including Steam.

1.7 million (and likely more if you consider Steam purchases) in the first one and a half months isn't bad at all. I think Half-Life 2 is going to have staying power, pretty much llike the original did.

You wouldn't think it had sold this much initially, when you consider it dropped out of the UK charts pretty quickly.

wasn't there like a figure of 2,000,000 steam purhcases of the game? Or am I just dreaming that?

I'm not sure. It's impressive if true, if only for the implication of online sales overtaking traditional retail revenue channels.

I've had The Rock on DVD and I thought HL1 had a lot of ideas based on it (the similarly-attired Marines, er and more I can't seem to recall)... then when I saw HL2 preview shots I was omg... that *is* Alcatraz (plus there were early battles with things falling on people where I thought - that's when they knew physics was the new big step in gaming/FPSs)! And now I've seen The Rock and playd HL2, they did borrow a lot, didn't they - or is that just me (a shot after Cage is captured by the marines almost identical to one of the first shots of Nova Prospekt)?

I think there are two reasons for the high online sales:

                          1) A lot of people bought ATI cards that had CD-keys for HL2.
                          2) A lot of people bought the game on Steam as an angry stance against Vivendi for their lawsuit.

Completed this beauty over the weekend and was delighted with the whole experience. Graphics on a new level and the game play was breathtaking. The walker battles throughout the city and the fantastic final chapter were out of this world!!

                            Couple questions on the ending...

From discussions with friednds and my own opnions I have drawn the conclusion that Gordon is a Government resource that they 'activate' when the **** hits the fan!! Gordon being called a 'pawn' by Breen show this. I didnt play right throught the first one so may be missing a vital piece of the puzzle. Would love if this could all be explained, or my view agreed with

The game itself is miles ahead of anything else in the genre and is my PC Game of the Year 2004.

Would have loved to play aropund with the uber Grav gun a bit more but that is what expansion packs are for, hehehe, I hope
