Have you ever tried uninstalling it and doing a fresh install?

I completely agree that it makes no sense!

I've try reinstalling, updating drivers, i used the everest home analysis thing to get all the right drivers, got a new hard drive...etc.

I run it at 1024 with medium detail and it runs like a dog.

and it really is wierd that lost coast runs pretty good with hdr on and medium settings.

I really can't stand the hassle that comes with PC gaming.

      overheating?

I've had a similar problem and it turns out that my CPU was almost running a 90 degree's celsius so i've ended up taking the side casing off and stuck a desktop fan blowing at my cpu for a temp measure and just from that my performance jumped almost back to what I used to get.

could well be yea...i also upgraded my gfx card from an unpowered GeForce Ti4200 to a 9880pro that requires a power source. I possibly think that my power suppply is insufficent.

Sorry if this has gone OT.

I think part 2 is in final testing at the moment, and part 3 is nearly done.

Well, no Aftermath this year (which isn't a bad thing as I've got so many games to play at the moment it's unreal).

Doug Lombardi's had this to say to HL2.net

Just wanted to give you a quick update on Aftermath, specically its ETA. We're working very hard to finish this new episode for HL2, however, its going to take us a bit more time to get it into top shape. As such, the target release for this one is now Feb/March of next year.

Valve. Don't give dates or estimations. Just don't do it. Please. Pretty please.

You'd have thought they'd have learnt their lesson to stick purely to internal dates by now until whatever is in development has reached near-release status.

Having said that, hasn't the Half-Life 2 Xbox port snuck up quietly? It's due to be released in the US and UK within a week. Oddly, despite having played the game last year, I'm really looking forward to chilling out on a couch playing a fluid uninterrupted version of the game away from the computer.

                    Without stutters

                      You ****ing bettcha.

Praise be that I can play it smoothly at last. Can't wait - the stutters have been what's held me back from playing Half-Life 2 the times I should.

Ditto dude...HL2 is my personal favorite game, my no.1 and it plays like **** on my PC, dispite being well over min requirements. I got the xbox version on Preorder and i'm just hoping it provides a solid experience of the game that i can enjoy with out fear of over the top stuttering and random crashes.

                          Yup.

After what Far Cry Instincts achieved on the Xbox I'm hoping Half-Life 2 will be my highlight for the system this year. It's a wonderful game - shame Source is flawed compared to other engines in terms of acceptable widespread compatibility.

I'll laugh my arse off and cry if there are stutters in all the same places of the Xbox version as I've encoutered them on the PC (I've already heard the frame-rate is supposed to be often sub-30).

The videos of it on gamespot were a chug fest even just during the first section

The first section in City 17 is pretty detailed though, it gets much simpler beyond that. From the vids I've seen the Xbox port looks to be somewhere in the region of 25-30fps most of the time. It's all rather low-res and blocky but still an impressive port given the ancient nature of the hardware.

Steam's changed a lot since I last booted it up.

Source games are as buggy as hell as per usual. Text has turned to square blocks
