I shan't miss the soundtrack if I manage to score a LE - the music's terrible compared to any Guilty Gear. Daisuke Ishiwatari's seriously over-extending himself. One reason I haven't rushed out and bought it quite yet, and yes, I'm quite serious. Unless it supports custom soundtracks, which I doubt, I'd prefer something on in the background that won't drive me up the wall.

Sure looks pretty though.

Thats a shame Eight Rooks, I quite like the music in Blazblue and i'm a fan of Daisuke's previous work. Although i still think the korean soundtrack to Guilty Gear XX Reload is better than his. Heresy...i know. ><

IIRC it's stereo. Time to boot up the game once again

I like BB's soundtrack, though it's more baroque and less consistent overall than Guilty Gear. Mixing violins and piano with electric guitars is something that very few people can pull off and the most memorable tracks are those with a prevalence of electric guitars like Bang's Reppu.
Something I noticed is that the soundtrack is more heavily influence by Helloween than Guilty Gear was.
Some of the tracks, however, are quite good: my personal favorites are Imperial Codex (Noel VS Jin) and Weak Executioner (Litchi VS Arakune). Sung tracks and everything involving Rachel on the other hand are quite crappy, even in Continuum Shift Accord Album.

The artbook is just SEX.
Does it have female characters arranged by boob size like the Japanese one has ?

I can't remember although theres a huge emphasis on the boobyness.

My fav track is Rachel's Queen of Rose. Love it!

To digress, my brother's a fairly successful session musician - he's kind of the extra, live-only member of a charting rock band signed to a major label - and when we both still lived with our parents the Guilty Gear XX Reload music is the only thing he ever walked into my room specifically to tell me how awful he thought it was. On the one hand, Blue Water Blue Sky is one of the few pieces of music that can instantly cheer me up on hearing just the first five seconds of it, one I can still hum even though it's been years since I played the games. On the other, I totally understood why he would say that; Ishiwatari's playing is raw, sloppy, his drum machine is godawful, cheap, tinny rubbish and the music sounds like it's recorded in someone's bathroom. (Try comparing the regular OST to the Korean-only soundtrack from N.EX.T. for proof.) But the simplicity, the energy and the life in the arrangements, for all their technical failings, just had me listening to them over and over and over again.

BlazBlue throws immediacy out of the window in favour of making everything ornate and yes, baroque, or at least a twelve-year-old's conception of what baroque ought to sound like. The synths are hideous, the strings either are fake or they all sound it, the vocals are almost (almost) worse than DMC3 and the production still lacks any sense of sophistication whatsoever. It's horrible, for the most part. Some of it's not actively offensive to the ears, but you couldn't hum any of it to someone else who hadn't heard the track in question and actually give them a good idea of what the music sounded like. I've listened to plenty of technical metal, I've been a fan (still like it, just don't listen so much) of black, death, thrash, classic and almost any kind of music played by long-haired people with guitars you care to name, and I'd argue until I lost my voice Daisuke Ishiwatari isn't really that talented and BlazBlue is the sound of him horribly overextending himself.

So yeah, yeah, cool story, me, etc., etc. Still, people actually think One-Winged Angel is a good piece of music despite all the evidence to the contrary, so it's not like I'd expect anyone to pay attention. Just wanted to get that off my chest.

And hey, I still want the game.

The music in blazblue does indeed sound tinny, i thought it was the compressed audio at fault. ><

I'll give you a game when I come back from work if you like. I finish at 9:00pm but can walk home fairly quickly. My PSN ID is Realhoneyman if you're interested.

I will say, I don't know how much time you've had with it but I've had the US one for a while now. You might whup me though so we'll see how we go later if you're interested.

Well, crappy soundtrack or not, I should still have a copy of the LE tomorrow. It doesn't seem to be that hard to get hold of; Play have it back in, HMV have it in and Amazon have it for only £30. Long time since I played a 2D fighter (or any kind, really!). We'll see how it goes, I suppose.

That makes his opinion on music totally irrelevant as far as I'm concerned, although I fully agree with him on the GG music being trash... and so is One-Winged Angel.

Does this play anything like GG? If it does it's just another round of soggy biscuits for me.

All I was trying to point out was that from a muso's perspective the GG soundtracks are universally awful, but that from someone (i.e. me ) who can appraise them from different viewpoints they're not so bad, even great. Not arguing from authority or touting 'his' band or whatever. (He's the live bassist/occasional percussionist for Friendly Fires, if you especially hate/actually like them.)

But BlazBlue's is just meh. Still, got the LE... think I might fire it up while the APB beta downloads.

my thoughts on Blazblue too - I just cant get into it. Which is odd considering I love fighters in general and have recently purchased my first arcade cab!

But to be honest im extremely bored of the GG games too...
