Considering the distance it seems the netcode seems pretty decent.

It was blink and you'll miss it kind of lag, a couple of times when jumping I just got the vague impression that the jump slowed down a little bit... I wouldn't even mention it if not for the fact that 95% of online matches are totally flawless. I wonder if your random matches were against Americans... apparently the network infrastructure in the US is pretty ropey compared to Japan so that may be why our match was better.

The UK peeps may get the **** end of the stick in terms of connection quality, as the game wasn't released in Europe it means the chances of connecting to somebody geographically close are pretty slim. I'll be interested to hear how it goes for everyone.

Cheers for the link, will check them out for sure.

I've got to be honest, I played around a dozen or so matches yesterday and never encountered any lag.

What a brilliant game this is.

This game has gotten even better since I realised that Ragna and Hakumen are both voiced by the chap who voices Kyon in the Haruhi anime!

The story mode seems a little overly complex in terms of what you need to do to unlock the most stuff. I can't seem to skip scenes either. I press triangle and it asks if I want to skip ahead and no matter what I press it keeps going instead of skipping, wheird!

Anyone got the hang of throw escapes? Prior to this the only fighter I was comfortable with was VF4/5... in that you are allowed to repeatedly mash the throw escape buttons to buffer it in whenever you think your opponent might try for a grab.

It seems Blazblue is nowhere near as forgiving - I read somewhere that it will only break the throw if you press the button combo once. Mashing it means it won't work. Certainly I have never successfully escaped from a throw despite battering away at B+C on numerous occasions. One press only seems almost impossible for normal humans to achieve, as the window of opportunity when the green '!' flashes up is so small.

              Am I missing something?

I've just tried the remote play, its a nice edition so I can keep training whilst im in the john!

Anyways, how it works is your basically controlling the PS3 but it broadcasts a video to your PSP so you can see what your doing. I didnt however notice any lag with the video playing on the PSP, but I reckon the further you are away from your PS3 the more video lag you'll notice.

On the throw escape front I'v emanaged to do it successfully several times now, but only because I was playing a guy who would always do the same combo launching into an aerial throw - I basically just started to expect it and as a result I got the escape down pat.

THat makes me wonder if it's something that can only be done when you recognise the usual moves that come beforehand? I'd love to know if anyone is capable of instantly reacting to a throw.

This arrived yesterday, and by god is it lovely. This really does feel like Guilty Gear ramped up in all positive ways.

Only two complaints so far - 1. just me, or does it take a bit too long to save each time? 2. ranked matches don't penalise ragequitters - my first ranked game was against some level 50something guy, and I was expecting a pasting, but he was awful. Quit just as I did my distortion drive to finish off the second round. Sigh.

For this reason I no longer save in story mode between rounds, I'll probably do when I'll aim for 100% with all characters.

Luckily enough no ragequitters yet, I was disconnected when I lost synch with an opponent while loading the match (thought the game said that he lost synch...), but it's what I was thinking: distortion and astral finishes basically ask losing players to quit. Talk about sore loosers...BTW, yes, the skill level varies wildly, but it's the result on how levels are managed: if a level 1 beats a level 50 for some reason his level will take a huge jump, while continually fighting opponents of the same level will make you move slowly...I've encountered level 30s that fight like me (bad/still learning the ropes) and level 10s that know the game by heart and you're lucky to land a blow on them.

Distortion finish is alright, it's not too different from just finishing with a normal combo, but the Astral Finish is a huuuuuuuge window of opportunity for quitters to bail out. I haven't bothered to try doing one online for this reason, it doesn't seem worth the risk.

Interesting about the level 50 guy, I have been avoiding players with a much higher level than me but perhaps I don't need to!

Yeah agree there about astral finishs but really i wouldnt use them anyway there is such a small window to do them dont think there as useful as the similar moves in guilty gear and fist of the north star

That's the way it tends to work in 2d fighters. If you recognize the situation that's leading to a throw you can break it (provided it's not a command throw) but on reaction it's usually near impossible. The difference in VF4/5 is that there are multiple different throws to escape and their range is greater. In BB you only have to worry about breaking 1 type of throw that can only be done point blank.

SC and Tekken are the only fighters I know where you can consistently break throws on reaction though I'm sure there are others.
